Excellent Volume
V13 continued the October based National Spring Volleyball (Spring Tourney) Miyagi Prefectural Qualifers. Similar to volume 12, two matches were played in this volume, further highlighting Furudate's mastery of excellent pacing for volleyball matches. It was commendable that he kept the pace fast paced as it provided an opportunity to keep the volleyball games from ever feeling stale. Volley's occasionally feel a bit routine and uneventful, but Furudate speeds things up at the more routine moments of a set or even a match, and always managed to slow things down when it mattered most.Of the matches in this volume, both would probably end up being very memorable. The first match versus the jumping hyper energetic physically active go at their own pace no tactics Johzenji was fun. The opportunity to see Karasuno play against a team that was seemingly disorganized but highly skilled was very welcomed from the previous matches in which Karasuno simply plowed through them. The spiderman panel of this match is easily most memorable, however, some of the more minor moments such as the faces of Karasuno when Johzenji attempted a synchro attack, or Kageyama taking the ball to the face were also memorable. Johzenji was well paced and of adequate length. I did end up having the feeling that we may see them again in the future. The second team Wakunan was only started in this volume but already seemed to be off to a great start. Several memorable panels already appeared just moments into the match Most memorable, was Daichi commenting to Hinata about getting riled up by their captain, Takeru. All of the teams felt so different from each other, that there are things to like about Karasuno playing against all of them. Im honestly excited each time we get a match of new faces. Its fun to see the teamwork of each team and how their abilities line up with Karasuno. Its great.Visually, this volume had great shots. The aforementioned Hinata spiderman shot is amazing, but so is the first chapters moment when Hinata is stuck between the previous faces of the top teams and players in Miyagi. Faces were full of life and emotion, minor moments especially like Hinata and Kageyama having tiny panels of anger and annoyance at being teased by Tsukishima. There was no bonus story, however the usual in between chapter data and sketches were present.
