One of the prized possessions in my manga collection is "Vagabond," created by the talented Takehiko Inoue, who is also known for his popular series "Slam Dunk." Vagabond, Vol. 1 is one of the most beautiful pieces of manga I have ever read and seen. The first in a 12-volume omnibus series, Inoue Takehiko has created something truly special for readers. Set in the aftermath of the Battle of Sekigahara, the story follows a young man (Shinmen Takezo) who strives to rise from his misfortune (being on the losing side) to become the greatest warrior in the land. Here are the pros and cons of this work below: Pros *Fascinating era and place (early Edo-era Japan, 1600s) *Beautiful artwork - Composed of three volumes, each opening chapter (by volume) opens with a exquisite series of color panels. Drawn in a realistic yet stylized art form, Vagabond oozes with detail from the detailed expression of emotion on character's faces to the flick of grass on the forest floor. The artwork seems to come alive! *Character development - All the discussion of artwork should not distract from the excellent display of character arc. The protagonist, despite being a prodigy in combat, is one whom continually struggles to deal with his sense of identity and mission. From the beginning of this volume to the end, Takezo changes as a person. Cons *Virtually none Summary As a piece of Historical Fiction, this volume is highly recommended. As a manga, it is highly recommended. As a piece of literature and artwork, it is highly recommended. Need I say more?

Vagabond reaches S trier in terms of quality. From the book itself, to the artwork and wording. A daunting book at a glance, it reads very fast, all whille having gorgeous art on display. The artwork of this manga is so far above any other manga it feels like it's in a league of its own. The attention to detail and expressionist design is better than the rest. Going beyond its very well introduced story, it doesn't take low hanging fruit. Choosing to take the high road in all situations, touching on eastern philosophy and historical accuracy with a metaphorical structure to its plot. This is my favorite manga. From the core message, to its art style and the character arcs, its just one of those times everything comes together and feels timeless.

This series is epic. I saw it at a barnes and nobles and after reading the first chapter I had to buy it. The art is impossible to put into words and the story is epic. This series is for mature readers. In the first volume alone Takezo cuts down over a hundred men. After completing the first Vizbig, I quickly bought the other 10 Vizbigs and was worth every penny. The story starts after in rural japan after a war. Takezo and his friend Matahachi are on the losing side and are on their way home. But getting back home is a dangerous journey, Because Takezo's side lost the survivors are killed. So on there way home they run into enemies and Takezo kills them hith some huge boulders. After this Takezo and Matahachi run into a bandit group and Takezo cuts down all the bandits with a wooden training sword. The first volue alone was amazing and the rest of the series so far is epic. And the character development is outstanding. If you like blood, gore, and samurais then you will love this series.

Even though my journey reading this series has just begun, I can already tell I am going to love it. The artwork is excellent, some of the best I have ever seen in manga form. The story is incredibly intriguing and historically based. My only issue here is not with the product itself, but rather the condition of the delivery. It could have been much worse, but the edges were rather scuffed on mine with some minor folds here and there. I would have rather this not be the case, but I still loved this product and would recommend it if you're at all interested.

i’ve already had the pleasure of finishing this story, just now collecting it for myself. not to be dramatic but this is easily the most incredible series i’ve ever laid eyes on. the detail in the art, the movement of the fight scenes, the complex characters, the dialogue, the story itself. i genuinely cannot dote on this series enough. if, for some reason, you have not read vagabond yet… please take this as your sign to do so. (warning: will raise the standards for any manga series you may read in the future)

It's one of the best Manga I've ever read, beautifully illustrated and printed BUT there's not enough protection for it during shipping so it wasn't in mint condition when it arrived as you can see in the pics.

Questa versione Viz Big di Vagabound è qualcosa di eccezionale. Il volume include tre volumi in uno e per questo ha anche un prezzo competitivo, solo 15 euro. Ovviamente è l'edizione inglese ma rispetto a quella italiana è in tutto migliore, tranne forse per una caratteristica, il peso. Tre volumi in uno sono un bel mattone sopratutto se si usa carta di qualità. Il volume ha una dimensione "perfect edition", questo permette di vedere i minimi dettagli delle splendide tavole di Inoue, inoltre sono presenti di tutte le tavole a colori. La carta è bianca e non trasparente, la rilegatura è ottima e la costina non si piega per nulla, quindi non ci sarà rischio di rovinare il volume anche dopo varie letture. Una caratteristica molto bella è il design della costina, i vari volumi formano un unico disegno. Quindi questa serie completa è bellissima da mostrare in libreria. Rispetto alla versione di Planet Manga non c'è storia e non bisogna preoccuparsi della disponibilità. Se l'inglese non è un problema, questa edizione di Vagabond è definitiva.
