Wonderful book! I'm a homeschool mom and I appreciate all types of learning environments for children. This book pretty much covered them all. It's great for mom kids to see how children from all over the world learn and grow.

What are schools like in other parts of the world?
What are schools like in other parts of the world?School Days Around the World by Margriet Ruurs discusses fourteen students at thirteen schools around the world. The students and schools vary in many ways and children will enjoy comparing their school experience to the children in the book. Even thought there are huge differences in their environments, all the children share similar desires to learn, read and play with others.Ruurs introduces real students to relate the stories. I like that the focus is on the person and their story versus the generic example or stereotyping. This book includes a nice cross section of school times including urban, rural, large, small, homeschooling, and boarding school. This book would be great just as a read aloud to spark discussions or has a supplement to unit studies on different cultures and ways of educating.Limited lesson plans are offered at the end of the book, which include discussion questions and additional learning activities.Promotional or discounted product provided for review.

School Rules - Here, There and Everywhere!
School Days Around the World by Margriet Ruurs introduces fourteen students at thirteen schools around the world. The students and schools vary in many ways and children will enjoy comparing their school experience to the children in the book. Ruurs interviewed real students to create realistic stories. They are focused on individual’s stories rather than classic example. You can’t really say schools in China, for example, are all like this, because even within a country you see such vast differences in schools, all over the world.Alice Feagan’s illustrations of paper cut collage are cheerful, friendly and inviting. She has many spot illustrations to depict special features of each student’s world. The “Closer Look” section at the back of the book has suggestions for furthering the conversation, finding additional information and ideas on how to help children who do not have access to schools.

Homeschool, boarding school & Kazakhstan, too!
I am so happy to see home education included in this book about schooling. It's becoming more widespread, yet still is underrepresented. Not only do we home educate, but we have a daughter we adopted from Taraz, Kazakhstan, also covered in this book. My husband went to boarding school as a child and that wasn't missed here either. We borrowed this book from the library, but I am here at Amazon to order a copy for our personal library. Thank you, Margriet Ruurs!

Very cute and informative book, but the age rage is definitely wrong. IAs a teacher, I'd say this is more for 8-10 year olds.
