versatile field sharpener
It's absolutely capable to create a razor sharp edge. The medium side removes material rather aggressively. Fast enough to bring a rather dull edge to an apex within minutes. The fine side brings the edge to a mirror polish. the one I got has some ripple or pattern that resembles wood grain on the white side. It might not be necessary (or desirable), but I sanded mine flat. The bottom line is, it's a field sharpener. It produces a very nice razor sharp pragmatic edge, but it's very hard to produce a good looking edge. Practice will make it better. I advice using lighter pressure. Just don't expect it to replace a good set of water stone. Edit: After using it for a couple of days, I've came to a conclusion that... this stone actually is amazing... the white side, as I said earlier, is grooved, and I polished that out. I also made the center of the white stone ever so slightly higher than the sides by grinding it on a diamond stone and apply pressure off center. That's because the edge of the stone is sharp and rough. that creates an ugly scratch pattern on the edge when the edge is in contact with the edge of the stone. After that, the stone became amazing. It produces an absolutely beautiful mirror polish that out shines my 8000 grit kitayama water stone. I hope there's a full size version of this and I'll definitely use that as a final polishing stone.

Good product, but more for finishing an edge.
This seems really well made and definitely worth the money. In my opinion, this is for putting that scary sharp finishing touch on a blade, and not for a working edge on an axe or Machete. It is really really fine grit. If I had to guess I'd say 800-1200 grit when comparing to sandpaper I have on-hand. All in all it's a good product that works well for the one knife I've sharpened on this so far. I would buy again. Just know this might not be the best sharpener for carrying in a pack for re-sharpening bushcraft tools since it is such fine grit. EDIT: I bought the Fallkniven DC4 sharpener that is almost exactly like this one except its gold where this is white. It is much better suited for establishing and maintaining a working edge on bushcraft tools. The combination of the DC4 and this sharpener should be all I ever really need.

High quality sharpening/honing stone
This is a high quality stone that can be used for honing and maybe sharpening. I have yet to fully get the hang of it so I am thinking this would be best suited for someone who is already familiar and comfortable with freehand sharpening, which I am still learning about. I've passed a few folding knifes across the surfaces and they work well to bring edges back to being sharp. I gave it 5-stars overall for the quality of the surfaces and the leather case. It's not a large stone so I would limit its use to just honing where the passes can be light.

Great product highly recommended.
After years of searching I have finally found the perfect combination stone for taking into the field. NOTE: THERE IS NO DIAMOND ON THIS. THIS IS A TWO SIDED STONE SHARPENING SYSTEM. FINE / SUPERFINE. The CC4 combines the best two stones for blade repair and recovery. The dark side is aggressive enough to remove a small knick and take care of most dulling issues. The white ceramic side puts a mirror edge on all the blades I have sharpened. The white side stains from the steel being removed but keeping the blade wet will alleviate some of the staining. I like the light weight of the stone (1.8 oz by itself or 2.3 oz while in the black leather sheath) Going in the woods for any length of time you need to push the 1 is none 2 is one rule, while also remembering you have to carry everything on your back. I believe that if you keep your tools in good shape with proper edge symmetry this should be able to bring back any edge failure you might run into while out and about. Thank you for making a great product.

Exactly what I've always wanted.
I've had a troubled history with sharpening, but ceramic stones had always worked well. Having recently purchased a lovely pair of overalls and becoming enamored with filling the pockets with tools, I wanted a way to be able to sharpen my blades anywhere. I had great success with coffee cups and achieved some of the best edges of my life, so I decided to leave the pantry alone and switch to a pocketable ceramic rod. While the rod worked great for knives with smaller bevels, it was apparent when sharpening larger beveled fixed blades that the inconsistency would be a problem. This stone, just as pocketable as a rod, does wonders to the edge of any blade if you know what you're doing. Aside from full on reprofiling, the ceramic side can be used exclusively and should last for years. My hairless left shin is a testament to the stone's ability to get a great edge quickly. If it's not working for you, you likely just need a bit more practice! Sharpening is a science, and once you fully understand what's going on along your edge, you can sharpen anything.
