Such as the section for 'crop impaction' where they state only one remedy: at-home surgery (not bad really) but another solution is to hold your chicken for 10-15 min, 2-4 times a day, and coarsely but gently massage their crop. It's worked for 3 of our birds after 2 days they are better. The supplier had an issue delivering out book, tracking numbers mixed up with FedEx, so it took over a month to get things right but once I was able to contact the seller for a replacement, they apologized and answered all of my questions immediately and we got a replacement in 2 days. I highly recommend the hard cover book! Review: Great chicken "medical' reference - This is part of my collection on chickens and it has lots of medical info in it. It has the anatomy of a chicken, various ailments [like streptococcis] and some control methods for infections, a section on internal parasites [like flatworms], diagnostic guides to evaluate a problem with, mites, pox and so on. I didn't know there was so many things to be aware of to keep a flock healthy. Good to have on hand and hope I don't have to consult it much, but if I have to do so, I feel better equipped to deal with a problem and to evaluate if it is something minor or major. I feel it is a handy reference and would recommend it, especially to 'newbies' and even those with more experience but still relatively new to the keeping of poultry.

Very detailed book on chicken health problems.
This book is a bit overwhelming (for me), but is very good. This author knows his chickens and understands how to embed this knowledge into a book. This is a reference book with step-by-step details for diagnosis. Excellent indexes and very good descriptions for the backyard hobbyist. Information for just about any disease that chickens could have with a lot of details. I have no medical background so I don't know how solid the information is, but I learned a lot about potential issues and solutions for my chickens. I have eight chickens that I raise for eggs, and enjoy just watching them each afternoon. Two years experience with raising chickens.

ALL chicken flock owners should buy this book
Ms. Damerow knows her stuff when it comes to chickens, even more than my mother, which is saying a great deal. Not only is there a very good section on diagnosing disease and ailments, but it also contains great information about general information that will ensure a healthy flock of chickens--and they are bound to be happier, too. This is such a great resource that I wish a revised version would be released.
