Recycled Robots: 10 Robot Projects Paperback – November 27, 2012

Bought this as a gift for my nephew. He's 9. He loves Robots. He loves figuring out how things work. Based on the Instagram videos I've already seen of his recycled robot creations, this is likely a jumping off point for his endless creativity. He's continually scouring the house for stuff to make into new and better robots. The little motors that come with this book actually work. He's a happy little inventor. My sister is thrilled he's found an activity that will keep him entertained and that she's not the one doing all the work. I have a five-year-old and intend to tuck away another copy of the book/kit for when he gets just a little bit older.

This is a great gift for kiddos who like to build with things you find around the house. There are step-by-step directions and supplies for some projects, and also some ideas for making up projects of your own. This was given to my five year old as a Christmas gift, and he liked it so well I got one for his friend's 5th birthday. It is simple enough for 5 year olds, but can become more complex to fit any age (even grown-ups who like to build).

I ended up purchasing two of these. I bought one and gave it to our 10 year old grandson. He and I made three of the robots in the book. The instructions are easy to follow and the projects are simple and don't require a lot of time so it's quick gratification. Before he came for the visit, the book includes a list of materials you will need for each project. I purchased all of the glue, glue dots, scissors, etc in advance. Then he and I built a robot toolkit for him to use with the book. He loved it and it provided us with entertainment for the weekend!

We ordered this twice, from Amazon sellers (not Amazon directly). Both times, from two different sellers, it was shipped in a bag and arrived crushed. This is why we will only order directly from Amazon from now on!! Grrrr.That being said, my 9 year old enjoyed the kit and has been using it for the past week, making robots from recycling materials. I like that she can find most of what she needs easily from our recycling bin, and she is able to follow the directions on her own, although we have had fun doing the projects with her as well.

I bought this for a friend's son when I went to visit and he was so excited when he saw the box that he nearly tore it out of my hands. He immediately disappeared into his room and came back soon proudly showing off the robot he'd built. They're fun to build, fun to play with and really foster creativity.I found out later that my friend built a couple of the robots himself, much to Jr's disappointment. Yes, he ordered a whole new kit.

The package arrived with a few small rips and dents. The seal was ripped/cut and it was clear the box had been opened. I can't tell if any pieces are missing because it is not clear how many dowels, googly eyes, and other items are supposed to be in there. It looked like somebody bought this, opened the box, and then decided they didn't want it so they put everything back, stepped on the box and returned it. Then Amazon sold it me. I would return, but this is a Christmas present so there is no time.

The child I thought would like this, has not even touched it.Perhaps I selected the wrong book for the wrong child.Make sure the child you pick this out for likes to make things with his hands.I was hoping this would make a couch potato want to get off the couch.I was wrong.

Besides the book, there are actual parts for building a robot. It is instructional and inspiring. Widely Recommended. It was a Christmas present for a nephew.
