Catch the Excitement. Catch the Adventure. Catch the Hawk. Bruce Willis, Danny Aiello, Andie MacDowell and Sandra Bernhard star in the funniest action/adventure/comedy ever! Willis is Eddie "The Hawk" Hawkins, the world's most famous cat burglar, who, after 10 years in prison, is ready to go straight. But it's not going to be easy for The Hawk. The mob and the CIA have conspired to blackmail Eddie and his partner (Aiello) into stealing three da Vinci masterpieces from the most heavily-guarded museums in the world. Sounds simple, right? WRONG! While trying to steal the goods, Hawk falls in love with a beautiful but schizophrenic nun (MacDowell) and is relentlessly pursued by the greedy and powerful Minerva (Bernard) and Darwin Mayflower (Richard E. Grant), who want the masterpieces as part of their twisted plot to ruin the world's economy. It's wall-to-wall action as the wise-cracking Hawk attempts to save the world, win the girl, and have the last laugh! Starring: Bruce Willis, Danny Aiello, Andie MacDowell

A Nostalgic Blast from the Past!
As a child of the 90s, I have fond memories of browsing the shelves of my local video rental store, searching for the latest action-packed blockbuster to watch on my trusty VHS player. So when I stumbled upon the "Hudson Hawk - Retro VHS Style" release on Amazon, I couldn't resist the opportunity to relive those nostalgic memories. From the moment the movie started playing, I was transported back in time to a simpler era where Bruce Willis was the king of the silver screen and action movies were all about having fun. "Hudson Hawk" doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's part of its charm. It's a silly, over-the-top adventure that's more concerned with delivering laughs and thrills than telling a coherent story. But what really makes this release stand out is the retro VHS packaging. The artwork on the cover and the tape itself is an homage to the classic video releases of the 80s and 90s. It's a perfect addition to any collection of vintage movies, or just a great way to display your love for all things retro.Of course, the picture and sound quality of the actual movie are not on par with modern releases, but that's to be expected. The grainy, slightly distorted picture and the occasional audio dropout only add to the overall charm of the experience. It's like watching a movie on an old, well-loved VHS tape that's been played a hundred times before. In conclusion, if you're a fan of Bruce Willis, action movies, or just want to relive the glory days of the VHS era, "Hudson Hawk - Retro VHS Style" is a must-have addition to your collection. It's a fun, entertaining movie that will transport you back in time and put a smile on your face. Highly recommended!

Must see
I couldn't find my DVD so I had to purchase the digital version. Quirky comedy, fantastically goofy.

First time on U.S. bluray. Mill Creek retro VHS.
Another welcome edition to the "retro VHS" Mill Creek series - sturdy cardboard sleeve (it'll fit nicely in your bluray library) that perfectly replicates a well worn VHS tape.Good sound and HD picture. Optional English subtitles. Great price, too.Years ago, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars signed on to play the lead role in an adventure that found him running all over Europe seeking various items hidden in the work of Leonardo da Vinci, all while trying not to be murdered by members of a diabolical secret society. That scenario didn’t work out quite as well for Bruce Willis, however, as it later would for Tom Hanks. Hudson Hawk was one of the most notorious flops of the ’90s, still a bad-movie punchline over two decades later. And Willis, frankly, shoulders a lot of the blame—not just because he helped think up the crazy story, but because this movie arguably caught him at peak smugness, lazily coasting on his wised-up smirk. This was the Return of Bruno, Planet Hollywood, Demi Moore era. He belts out a few tunes, one a duet with Danny Aiello (the pizza parlor proprietor in Do the Right Thing). Also on board: the late, great James Coburn and pre - NYPD Blue/ CSI David Caruso. Not to rest on laurels, Frank Stallone co-stars. That's entertainment! Hudson Hawk (like Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man and Roadhouse) demands to be seen, if only because it goes places few studio star vehicles have ever dared. The screenplay is credited to Steven E. DeSouza, who penned the first two Die Hard films, and Daniel Waters, best known for writing the black comedy Heathers (directed, like Hudson Hawk, by Michael Lehmann). As that odd combination would suggest, it plays like the most extreme parody of an action movie imaginable, with every element cranked up to 11. Heist sequences are shot as goofy musical numbers. Richard E. Grant and Sandra Bernhard (The King of Comedy), as the crazed villains, engage in a film-long contest to determine who can go further over the top, with. Andie MacDowell (Groundhog Day) impersonates a dolphin at length. It’s the kind of film viewers watch with mouth agape, unable to believe that hundreds of professionals spent months (and millions) working to make it. And taken in the right mood, a lot of it is genuinely pretty funny. Anyone can throw the hero out of an ambulance and have him barrel down the highway on a gurney, but it takes a cherishably warped sensibility to have him catch another driver’s discarded cigarette butt, take a puff, and then complain that it’s menthol.

Would you like to swing on a star?
The conventional wisdom on this 1991 film is that it was a colossal bomb which derailed Willis' career. It got terrible reviews, true, and it flopped at the box office, but I've never been convinced that 'Hudson Hawk' was the awful stinker that its reputation would have you believe. The comedy in this film is certainly off-beat, at times silly, and it's easy to understand how the style and tone of this film failed to appeal to film critics. I'd agree that 'Hudson Hawk' isn't for everyone. But there's also a slightly surreal, almost absurdist quality to this movie, lurking just behind the surface, and I think that if you accept that not everything in this movie makes literal sense-- or is even intended to make literal sense-- the experience of watching 'Hudson Hawk' is a lot more fun.Relax, switch your brain out of 'literal' mode, and enjoy this bizarre panoply of characters. You'll be glad that you did. The sardonic 90s wit of young Bruce Willis is amusing, and Andie MacDowell is a breath of fresh air. The 'candy bar' gang is hilarious. Sandra Bernhard, in particular, is delicious in her role as the oversexed villainess. If you look at Hudson Hawk as a crime caper, yes, the ending will probably fall flat. If, instead, you look at it as an Alice-in-Wonderland quest for the perfect cup of cappuccino, you won't be disappointed.

I’ve liked this movie for years.
Great cast and good, though fanciful dialogue. We’re going to miss Bruce Willis.

Oh, what happened here…
I remember really enjoying this movie back in the 90s. So while recently buying some movies from my childhood/teens, I saw this and just had to get it. Unfortunately it wasn’t as fun as I’d remembered it being. There were parts that I still laughed at, but it is truly outdated in almost every respect. Also, the picture quality is basic (like 90s tv), and the DVD didn’t even have a menu screen, let alone any features. Still, I got a kick out of Willis and Aiello singing away, so there’s that.

Very Funny Movie
Hudson Hawk is an American comedy film released in 1991. The film was directed by Michael Legmann and stars a list of popular actors and actresses including, Bruce Willis, Andie MacDowell, Richard E. Grant and the awesome James Coburn. Willis' character is a former bank robber who gets forced into a job. He's tasked with finding several pieces of a Leonardo Da Vinci machine that turns blocks of lead into gold. The story has many twists and turns with lots of big comedy moments. If you're going in expecting a good heist movie or something fairly tasteful, just stop right there and go away. This is a VERY slapstick orientated film. There's lot of physical humour and some jokes that comes out of the left field. Some of these more out of the blue jokes might offend some of the modern softer generation but me, I found them absolutely hilarious. It's clear the likes of MacDowell and Willis are having a blast with the role. In fact, it's probably one of the last Bruce Willis films where he actually showed some form of emotion. The actually bluray was released through Signal One Entertainment. It's a pretty good looking transfer. There's a lot of colour and plenty of clarity. It's not like you need to see a lot of detail in movies like this but it's there and looks really nice. You'll also see a lot of film grain, a feature someone will want to know about. The extras include an audio commentary from the films director, a music video by Dr. John, a couple of featurette's, a still gallery and the original theatrical trailer.Hudson Hawk is a film that will never set the world on fire. It appears to be a film that you either love or hate. To me personally, I think it's a great funny film. It has plenty of memorable one liners, funny jokes and scenes that will stick with you for the rest of your life. If you like your films completely outlandish and over the top, this might be one for you.

Off The Wall and Utterly Brilliant
I have never understood why this movie did so badly or why so many hate it, although I understand it was marketed as another Die Hard type of adventure when it was originally released. It's zany and off the wall and gloriously over the top and I love it. Everyone looks like they're having a blast, which I guess shows the calibre of the acting if nothing else because it was apparently a very difficult shoot. If you're looking for realism, you won't find it here, but if you're in the mood for daft fun or just something to cheer you up, this is the movie for you. There are one or two one-liners that are a bit dodgy sounding to modern audiences, but if you can overlook those, you're in for a hoot. Plus the soundtrack is great.
