Beard Balm - Valhalla

It has mid-holds, but the aroma is very good!

The good: Firstly, I love this beard balm. This was my second purchase of it, so you know I liked it the first time! It is the right consistency for my somewhat coarse, medium length beard. It's not so oily that it provides too little hold and not so waxy so that it is too difficult to melt and apply to my beard. I am not a guy who wears a lot of scents, and I find that most beard oils and balms are very scent heavy, but not Yggdrasil. It has a light, bright scent. I would still probably prefer unscented, but if I have to have a scent, this is a good choice. It is slightly more expensive than the other brands I had tried, but after using it, I am definitely willing to shill out a few extra dollars because a good product is a good product. And for the problems I had: Now, I ordered this in the late spring, and we had an unusually hot week and as such about half of the balm had melted and dripped out of the container into the box. I typically try to contact the seller if there are any problems and Mad Viking did not disappoint. They responded within a couple of hours with a promise to send a replacement. Quick, fair customer service is how you build repeat customers (and the reason I chose to write a review).

Took a chance on this as I was not entirely happy with too many years of failed claims. Upon opening the tin, which is way cooler than it should be, I noticed that the scent was subtle to the point of almost being odorless. After applying, I began to get the scent. Present, not over powering, but there and REALLY good! It goes on better than I expected as a little goes a long way and covers evenly. The hold is great and lasts longer than most other balms. I am well pleased and will continue being a Mad Viking, but not mad at the balm failing to live up to the Viking title. Well done, men!

My barber used some of their beard oil on me, and I loved the scent, unfortunately he was out of that scent so I bought their Ragnarok oil at my from him a few months ago. I thought I'd like the citrus scent, while not unpleasant it reminded me too much of Fruity Pebbles versus the what I thought it would smell like. Regardless, I was wanting to try the balm to have something that's a little stronger hold and I picked up the Balm in Mjolnir scent and love it! The scent is more heavy towards cedar and sandalwood, but with a slight hint of peppermint. I have a fairly short beard, but slightly longer at the chin (probably only 1/2"-3/4"). The balm helps add a little hold to keep some of the lose hairs a little better in place throughout the day, and I don't feel like my beard drys out and gets as itchy by the end of the day using the balm, as it did with the oil. I bought some wax from another manufacturer to try to use for more formal occasions; however, it required using a blow dryer to warm the wax enough to use. The Mad Viking Balm is great, because you can scoop it out without warming it. It feels a little gritty, but the friction of rubbing your hands together melts it down quickly and gives you some decent hold through the day.

This Mad Viking beard balm is absolutely fantastic! Exactly what I was looking for. My previous balm company changed their formula because customers were complaining that it was "too hard". It's BALM! It's supposed to be "hard" out of the jar. After they changed the consistency of their "balm" it turned out to be just north of a cream. Not quite a cream but pretty darn close. Completely took away any holding power it had before. That said...my new balm company is DEFINITELY Mad Viking. This stuff is WAY better than the original formula of my previous company. Drag a good thumbnail of balm and give it a really good rub between the palms and you're in business. The moisturizing is great and the hold is awesome! No more fly-aways...keeps everything in place for me. If you're looking to try or change beard balms you've found it right here. I really like the Ravn Rom scent but then again it's the only one I've tried so far. I might order the sampler pack. Join "The Horde"! I'm glad I did!

Scent is great an lasts almost all day, could have more hold to it. but other than that I really like this balm, I have sensitive skin and this has not irritated it.
