Foscam FI9853EP Outdoor Weatherproof P2P IP Security Camera with 65ft Night Vision, Motion Detection Alert, Power over Ethernet, Free Cloud Service Included

My first Foscam product and it seems great. There are a few things that I would have liked changing, but other than that its fantastic for the priceThe Ethernet, power and reset switch are on a single cable that splits off, and its attached to the camera. I would have liked just an Ethernet jack, as I have the cable running through the wall. Now I have had to make a bigger hole in my wall to cram all the extra cabling through. I don't even need the power jack but I have to have it there for no reason.When I unboxed the camera I assembled it all, and then tried to move the camera unit in the base. Causing some scratches on the plastic. I wish they warned me about this, or added some padding to voice this. Its not a big deal, but still a little annoying.The setup is very quick, and it worked with Safari and Chrome no problem. The quality is really great, and the night vision works much better then I ever would have expected. There is no delay at all, and everything looks clear. The construction is really great, and I am surprised its listed as only indoor, as it seems like this would work outside no problem, the metal is good quality (But the Foscam logo looks a bit weird)Overall, I would buy this again. Just make sure to watch the video from the other reviewer, as its larger than I expected

I got this camera as a baby monitor to a spot on the kids's room ceiling that I ran Ethernet wire. Hardware installation was pretty straightforward. After getting it all set up, I am happy with the image quality. The LEDs do visibly illuminate at night (probably to notify people they might be videoed), but they are pretty dim. As an HD camera that uses H264 compression there will be some delay (a couple of seconds) when viewing the stream (as opposed to the older MJPEG streams). This might or might not be an issue.However, it took some acrobatics to get the software configuration going. I'm not sure if this is true for all new Foscam products, but a special plugin was required to configure (as well as view) from a web-browser. I a recent version of Chrome, the type of plugin used by Foscam was disabled. I had to go to the Foscam forums where I found out a "beta" firmware version for this camera existed that did not rely on the special plugin. Finding that beta firmware was a chore as it was nowhere to be found on the US Foscam site. I finally found it, and downloaded it from the Danish Foscam site -- and that worked!! So, there were a few hours I'll never get back that could have been addressed by better support.A final nit: I use an Android app to view the image. The App (IP Cam Viewer Pro), has a database of almost every camera that sets up the right parameters for proper viewing. This camera did not show up on the list. I had to set up a "custom URL" once I figured out the right URL and stream parameters to configure on the camera. This one isn't really on Foscam, but does impact setup nonetheless.This would have 5 starts if it wasn't for the software configuration issues.

Despite the known SSH/FTP backdoors into these shady Chinese devices, I though I could make it work in a tightly controlled ZoneMinder environment behind some strict firewalling, because, well they are cheap. Turns out they are pretty much unusable garbage too.The web interface interface for these devices locks you out and completely unnecessarily requires you to download an extremely shady BINARY, windows-only browser plugin. You know, the kind which virtually everyone stopped supporting because of the very serious security implications and abuses. No one with even a modicum of security awareness would have allowed the installation of this kind of software even when it wasn't totally deprecated.Device configuration could be perfectly well handled with safe html/html5/css or even js controls, but from what I can tell, the mfg didn't want to go that way in order to force spyware/bloatware and potential backdoors into your control system. On top of that, the Android / iOS app (tested in VM) requires you create an account and give the app access to the entire filesystem as a required prerequisite for literally ANY functionality. No personal information given, no access to the device sitting 30cm away on your desk. The mfg literally takes great measures to lock you out of your own hardware, in order to force you to compromise your privacy, PC and/or phone.Using the RTSP interface, I found the latency to be just awful; something like 4-5s of delay on the video. Video encoding quality is also slow, poor and chunky. Maybe that's just to be expected in a cheap camera, but even if it didn't have all these other problems, I would return it for the encode artifacts.As a security guy, I recommend all of these devices to be retired until some open-source project totally rewrites the firmware to something decent and trustworthy. As a Linux guy, this device is unusable and shady as hell. As a video guy, the picture could be worse, but not having a usable standard RTSP interface makes it garbage. Finally, as a developer, the firmware, backdoors, anti-privacy app and binary installers indicate a completely incompetent dev team AT BEST, but much more likely malicious and mediocre.Yeah, I know they are cheap, but just keep looking, and stay away from all Foscam products for good reasons.

Diese Kamera funktioniert problemlos und zuverlässig. Sie hat weder WLAN noch Mikrofon.Einziger aber großer Nachteil ist, daß man sie nur über den Internet Explorer einrichten kann.Zwar kann man sie auch über die Handyapp einrichten. Da gibt es aber nicht die Möglichkeit den Port zu ändern um den Webzugriff einzurichten.Ansonsten ist es eine solide Kamera.

As a VMS installer, I have seen just about everything there is to see with IP Cameras: From the useless crap that should not be sold at a swap meet, to the enterprise class hardware that makes your heart skip a beat. Although the FI9853EP is by no means an enterprise class device (the included software and GUI are a joke. Seriously, who uses ActiveX in 2018??!!! And the SD card slot for on-board recording does not work...AT ALL!!), the hardware itself is a thing of beauty. The images are clear, crisp and vivid. Depending on the distance covered, you will be able to read the fine print of any item in its field of view or see the wrinkles on every face it records; and as long as the VMS used supports the Foscam HTTP/RSTP API you can enjoy all the camera's features. By far, it is the best camera for the price. BTW, this is NOT a wifi camera. It uses a built-in POE connector...but you can also use the included power supply.

Ce n'est pas la 1ère caméra Foscam que j'achète. Toujours autant séduit par la marque.Branchée sur un port PPOE de mon switch la caméra fonctionne très bien. L'angle de vue est large. La qualité de l'image est bonne tant qu'on ne zoome pas à fond sur l'image. En effet dès qu'on zoome ça manque de détail. Mais pour l'utilisation qui en est faite ça suffit amplement.

This is a very good camera the build quality is amazing and clean the best way to set the camera up is using explore/edge as you can configure more settings like giving it a static IP.I have even added this camera to my QNAP NAS so I can record and monitor what's goinghad a little issue adding it to my qnap so I e-mail Foscam and I had the issues resoled with in an 1 hour thanks to Stephen Lei Customer Service Representative at foscamthe picture quality of the camera is amazing I would recommend this camera

sinceramente mi sarei aspettato molto di piu' da questo prodotto, macchinoso da configurare rispetto ad altre telecamere, immagini nella media.
