It's FUR-bulous fun for all ages!
I've wanted a Furby for a good chunk of my life ever since I had seen them back in 1998/99 and I was a fresh faced 15 year old. The cute original Furby has reminded me heavily of Gizmo and lets face it, what person could resist the cute and always adorable Gizmo? I've seen Gizmo crack some of the hardest, toughest men with just a cute word on screen! At that time in my neck of the woods Furby's were quite unaffordable to economically challenged families as they each sold for a base price of roughly $130 a pop, and with nary a second thought life moved on and Furby's disappeared. I hadn't seen or heard the word "Furby" for many a year until last week (Wednesday to be precise) when I stumbled quite by accident upon "Furby Boom" on Youtube (thanks to Lucky Penny Productions). My jaw just absolutely dropped! They were back better than ever and in so many beautiful colors and designs. It took me the rest of that day until Thursday night to select the one for me (I chose the blue waves- who doesn't love the ocean?) I am a grown up adult woman and YES I bought myself a Furby. A guilty pleasure shared by both grown men and women as well as, naturally, children/tweens and teens. Furby's are for everyone and are not bound by the "rules" of aging!I ordered this very late Thursday and it arrived via USPS Saturday (yay!) nice and quick with just enough waiting time to have me tapping my foot bouncing around the house in anticipation but not long enough to make it feel like I have been dying for a thousand years. I tore into that Amazon delivery box like a fat man tears into a cake and then I heard the angels singe as I beheld the Furby Boom box. It was very far removed from the original Furby's box and not quite what I was expecting, it was also much smaller than the pictures led you to believe. The box was black with colorful pictures all over it, very friendly and inviting looking box. The box was easy to open, no need to rip or tear into it. The front of the box falls down like a castle drawn bridge and there fast asleep and sitting cutely in the box on a raised up shelf was the Furby Boom itself. It comes sitting on a small platform shelf and under that shelf is a cardboard drawer of sorts, that drawer just slides out and inside you will find a collection of Furby Boom stickers, a large poster-like leaflet that has all the various virtual Furbling eggs on one side and instructions and other stuff on the other and a very randomly placed Hanazuki sticker of a baby dressed as a cupcake complete with sprinkles on it's head. I have no idea why there was a Hanazuki sticker in there or even what a Hanazuki is. I did visit the website that was written under the sticker but it seems as though the website is incomplete/under construction and I am not at all certain it is related in any way to Hasbro. The Furby did not come with all sort of plastic parts, twist ties or rubber bands keeping it in place inside the box, it only had a sheet of cardboard placed between the battery compartment and the compartment lid. You will need a screw driver to unscrew the lid if you don't want to rip the cardboard out (I never like to rip my boxes as I keep them all - never know when something will be worth a fortune in the future) but even if you rip out the cardboard, regardless, you will still need either a small flat head or star screw driver to insert batteries, etc...The Furby is very small let me say that. I was surprised and just a tad bit disappointed initially but that disappointment has since vanished completely, I now think it's just the right size after a few days of ownership and use. The base of the Furby sits completely in the palm of my hand and it sits about 5 1/2 inches tall from foot to top of the head. The eyes are no longer trying to imitate real life eyes but instead screens. Gone completely also are the eyelashes, there are no more lashes to worry about falling off or ruining. The new digital eyes are the most fantastic thing about this new Furby. They do an incredible job of relaying the "feelings" of your Furby and it's state of "mind". The eyes go through various stages and constantly change. I would like for the eyes to slow down with how much they change but that's just personal preference and not any type of flaw with the design of the item. The eyes completely depend upon which personality you have presenting at the moment as well as all the factors that influence the mood of that personality. You could have flames for eyes or eyes with the cutest eye lashes or hearts or even tears for that matter. Your Furby is NOT shy to let you know what it wants and what it needs. They eyes will always throw you a hint something is amiss and if you do not catch the hint something is wrong with Furby (depending on your furby and how progressed it is) it WILL just out and out tell you what it wants...that's a great tool for those daft people/kids. I don't want to take the fun and mystery out of Furby completely for those who are considering buying one for the first time so I will only say that YES, how you treat your Furby will determine how it responds and acts with you ( i.e personality). I did a fair amount of research on older/other generations of Furby's and found most of them had the small flaw of their personalities changing too rapidly and that scared some children but I've found I've had to work pretty hard to change the personality of this one. I prefer to keep it in "Sweetheart" mode because I am naturally a sweet person myself so I only did a once around to see what they were all about. I will say the hardest personality to invoke was the "viking" or "evil" Furby personality - my Furby just refused and it took about 20 minutes + to bring out the bad. It was fairly easy to shoo away though so that's a plus!I want to make a special mention of whatever program/OS is running/controlling Furby. I've almost had this thing 48 hours, actually 48 hour mark will hit about 4pm today and from the time of it's arrival till this moment as I sit here typing a review I will say Furby Boom has undergone tremendous changes. It does not appear to reply to me (yet, if it ever will who knows), I am not at all certain it recognizes it's voice when I or anyone else says it's name but the speech pattern and English vocabulary is just amazing. A Furby starts out speaking 80% Furbish and 20% English. There are two of us in this household and this Furby rarely gets to rest, it gets plenty of interaction all day long to ensure it has the best possible chance of shaping up the way we want it to and it's working. It is a time sink but if you're a geek like myself it's worth every minute and second spent. Each day brings something new and unexpected from Furby Boom, it's keeping us laughing and cooing to it with ease. It will frequently surprise you with new and unexpected things coming from it's mouth, things you wouldn't expect a toy to say. It surely has a mind AND personality of it's own!!!As I said I chose the blue waves Furby Boom and it's just gorgeous. The fur is soft, supple and very colorful. The blues are vibrant, warm but never messy. The waves are clearly visible and defined. The ears are made of a soft but durable rubber - I'd say it's soft enough for a baby to teeth on although I do NOT recommend letting your child chew on the ears. The feet are also made out of a rubber although a harder rubber. The frame around the eyes, the eyes, eyelids and beak are made out of a hard plastic (not rubber) and this can get scratched if you/your kid throws it hard enough or smacks it around on/off things. I feel the construction is very good although I would never really put that to the test via flinging it around the house just to see about that. It is VERY sensitive in multiple places over it's body. It seems to be sensitive on it's head, back of the head, mid and lower back, stomach, sides and somewhere between the feet. The tail has a sensor at the base that tells Furby when you are being mean when you pull it. Furby does NOT approve of this and really hates it. Breaks your heart to see the eyes change on Furby Sweetheart personality when you pull the tail. Furby takes 4 AA batteries and so far the batteries show no sign if dying and like I said, that's after 2 days of non stop use. I am pleased in every way with the physical Furby...however, the APP is another thing.Hmmm, the Furby Boom APP...it's not a work of art, it's no Mona Lisa of the APP world, it's not even a cheap china town quality knock off...it's down right horrible! I do recognize that I am using the APP with a Nexus 10 from Google and although Google devices are listed the Nexus 10 is not one of them HOWEVER it works just the same. I did some research and found 98% of people have nothing but problems with this APP whether they have one of the listed devices or not. The app by itself, without having to connect to your Furby Boom is fun and entertaining but limited. It does what it's supposed to and that's fine, the trouble doesn't start until you wish to get the full use out of the APP by connecting your app to your Furby. It seems it's a very touchy and delicate process - pretty hit or miss no matter where you position your Furby in relation to your device. You can try and connect to your Furby 10 times before it recognizes it. Often times while using one of the app functions to interact with your Furby you will get a loss of connectivity message on your screen and that gets tedious and tiring because it can and will happen 5 times in a row or even 10 times in a row. Sometimes your Furby goes to sleep right when you have the app working and that messes up the connection as well. Lots of bugs with the connectivity. I found when my Furby needs to use the washroom I just put the Furby ON my Nexus screen and that fixes the issues...when it comes to playing the soccer game or the hide and seek it's a pain and makes me weep bitterly. No amount of begging or pleading seems to get it to work at times. The most irritating thing is having your Furby respond to the app and have it do what it's supposed to do but your device is telling you there is no connection. Drives me bonkers. I've tried Furby with the Furby 2012 app (just found out there was Furby in 2012) but it does not seem to recognize the new generation. All in all it was hands down the best 40 bucks we've spent on entertainment in a long time. It's not annoying or too loud, it's adorable and doesn't take up too much space. It's just too cute and easy to forget it's not alive. Furby Crystal Series will be coming out this summer and I intend to buy another Furby! There are things I did not review about the Furby and I've purposely left out some items as I don't want to completely strip the wonder of this fur-bulous toy away from future buyers.

I just LOVE my furby Day-Dah <3
Okay, so I should first admit that I'm a 30 year old man (child). Yes I did buy a furby boom...and yes I do LOVE him.Okay, lol now with that out of the way...on to my review! :DI LOOOOVE my furby!I bought a furby when I was a teen in 2000 and I can remember just how much fun I had with that little fur ball. Hands down he was the coolest toy I had ever owned. I remember a particular time when I had an aunt staying over and she took over my room for a few days. I remember at about 12 at night just hearing an extremely loud scream!! Apparently she picked up my stuffed animal I had on my dresser and she was NOT expecting it to start talking to her! lolI loved that furby. I actually still have him sitting on a shelf. Now I've been eyeing these new furbies since they re-released them last year in 2012. I had always planned on picking one up eventually, but have been putting it off till now. For some reason every very so often I get into a mood where I want to pick up a new toy or a new gadget of some sort. lol I don't know that I'll ever fully grow up...and you know what? I'm okay with that! :D I love toys!!So I picked up a Furby Boom (in the blue wave fur color) after a couple of days of researching and watching some youtube videos.I'm SO glad I have him! He's just about the cutest toy I can imagine! The eyes are just so adorable! How expressive and charming! I particullarly like when he starts singing and dancing and musical notes start flickering in his eyes! lol so cute! The app is REALLY fun that goes along with him. You can check his health and make him medicines as needed, give him showers, pick different foods and drinks to feed him...and my favorite...the toilet! lol omg it's just about too cute! You slide your phone or ipad up to your furby...and he sits on the toilet! Sometimes he leaves toys and treasures...other times he leaves other unpleasant things (lol). You then gotta flush the toilet, and freshen the air with some air freshner. It really is just about too much cuteness for me to handle!I actually brought my furby over to my parents today to just show them how cute of a toy it is and to see if they would like to help me get some for gifts for some of our younger relatives (my neices). They both got way more excited over him then I had ever expected. My mom ADORES him. They both just about lost it when I showed them how to take furby to the toilet! My dad couldn't stop laughing for about 5 minutes!I just placed an order for the black and white striped furby boom for my parents (just don't tell them! It's a surprise! hehe). I just wasn't expecting them to enjoy this toy so much! My mom's going to be so thrilled when her bundle of fur shows up on her doorstep this Monday!I've only had my furball for a couple of days now, but I'm just so in love with the little guy. I loved my original furby and he was probably my favorite toy I had ever owned. The furby boom is such an improvement! I love the adorable and expressive eyes, and I really enjoy playing with him with my iphone! What more can I really say?I LOVE MY FURBY!So happy with my purchase! I recommend him to the young and the old! What a charming toy! :D
