KCG0702CS Burr Coffee Grinder, Contour Silver

Ok, I did a lot a reading about different burr grinders before ordering this one. I wanted one that wasn’t huge on the counter and wouldn’t wake the whole neighborhood. I know this one didn’t have the greatest reviews but I liked the fact it had glass carafes. Coffee beans are oily and the idea of putting them in the dishwasher sounded smart. Also plastic carafes yellow as they age. Now granted, I have only had mine for a few months so I can’t speak on longevity, but so far I really like the Kitchen Aid Burr Grinder. It is loud, but not obnoxious. (It’s a grinder, so what do you expect? If your looking for silent buy a hand grinder). It is definitely much quieter then other brands. It is very solid, heavy, and well built. If you have a Kitchen Aid Mixer you know the quality of this machine. The reviews kept mentioning people break the glass carafes, so I am careful with them. (They are glass, so what do you expect? If your a klutz maybe you should buy plastic.) The reviews mention this grinder clogs often, so I simply turn it on prior to dropping in scoops of beans. I let it run for 15-20 seconds after it’s done grinding to clear the beans and there has been no problem with clogging. I do not store my beans in the top carafe because I like to measure my beans for each pot of coffee. (My recipe is 2 scoops of regular and 4 scoops of decaf beans per pot. Brewed in a Moccamaster is amazing!!!) I had some static in the lower carafe when it was brand new but now static is not an issue. I do not take the grinder apart to brush out the burrs after each use. (I’m not obsessed.) I’m guessing the static became less of an issue after the inner working parts got coated in coffee oils. I have noticed some static in the lower carafe immediately after taking it out of the dishwasher, but after one or two uses the ground beans stop sticking to the glass again. I clean mine once a week to once every other week. I think that’s it. Kitchen Aid has made a nice grinder for the money. I’m very impressed and if you aren’t abusive with it you will be too. - Hope this helps. Good luck!

This grinder is a BEAST. It is extraordinarily quiet. It holds about a half-pound of coffee beans. The glass receptacle is heavy, it empties easily into my coffee maker. It's operation is simple: select the size of the grind, turn on the switch. You have to either weigh the grinds, or eyeball it. I weigh, taring my scale with the empty receptacle first, then weighing it when it looks to have enough. I did have to tighten the two screws on either side of the grind setting before using it, finger-tight does the job. Buy one now before they're gone.

We had to pay a premium for this grinder because it seems it’s discontinued. The style and motor are very much like the mixers everyone loves so much. It’s a straight forward design that’s easily cleaned. Noise level is low for the monster motor they attached to this. It’s a very low speed grinder so that might be why. The grind quality seems consistent but I’m not scrutinizing it that much. It’s early in the purchase time but so far this was worth the money over some of the newer plastic options. This unit has almost no plastic except for the knob and a little on the base. It’s all metal and glass.

After using my grinder for about 5 weeks it made a terrible laboring noise. No coffee was coming out, so I realized coffee grounds were impacted within the discharge port below the burr chamber. The whole grind mechanism was becoming clogged with grounds, pushing the moveable half of the grinding burr forward under significant pressure so the coarseness selector knob wouldn't even turn. I was past the 30-day Amazon return date. I took the grinder apart for a thorough cleaning. Even after cleaning, the problem repeated immediately. I called KitchenAid warranty service, and they were very helpful. They shipped a new grinder and a call tag to return the old grinder in the new packaging. I couldn't understand what type of defect would cause this. It's a pretty basic device. I used the replacement grinder with no problem for almost 2 months, then it developed the exact same problem. I tried different coarseness settings. Doesn't matter from coarse to fine, the grounds fail to flow down out of the grinder. It's not because the receptacle is full. The backup is within the grinder, not from too much coffee in the cup. It just backs up and would burn up the motor if left to run. No one should have to put up with this from a $250 coffee grinder. ------ I recently replaced a Kitchen Aid burr grinder purchased in 2012. A small plastic disk called the "holder," which holds a larger, spring-loaded disk in place under the grinder and over the lower glass jar, had broken into pieces. I ordered a brand new grinder which was delivered next day and was able to repair the 2012 model a week later by ordering the $14 holder, a standard repair part for KitchenAid Coffee Grinder KPCG100OB1. The older grinder cost $169, the new one cost $249. Both grinders are great, but by comparison the new model is super quiet. Finally, there must be better sound insulation around the motor, and I can tell the motor runs more slowly. It generates less heat and almost zero static electricity. So the whole grinder, jar and coffee counter area stays much cleaner. My family sort of misses the comforting scream of the old grinder, heard throughout the house as an announcement fresh coffee is imminent. But I'm getting use to being able to hear the radio while coffee is grinding. I shipped the old grinder to my 24-year-old son. He used it for years at home and is happy to have it in his service. I've used other burr grinders made mostly of plastic. They have all been loud AND generated so much static the coffee would fly all over the place. Or you have to wait a few minutes before using the coffee grounds. The lack of static is amazing. I use oily, dark roast beans. They sometimes keystone in the upper glass hopper. With this grinder you can safely stick your finger into the hopper to move the stuck beans along without touching anything that will damage your digit. I love this grinder and am happy I was too impatient to wait a week to repair the old one.

Cuando adquirí el producto, por default estaba en la opción 5 o 6 de tipo de molido. Y funcionó perfecto por este tiempo. Un buen día decidi cambiarlo al modo mas fino de molido y note que no estaba funcionando correctamente, empezo a salir un olor a quemado y eso me inquietó. Tuve que abrir la máquina y limpiarla, y volver ensamblar. Desde entonces una que otra vez hay que desatorar los granos de cafe o checar que pasa cuando muele de forma inconsistente. Para algo tan caro y que promete ser de mas potencia, me ha decepcionado. Mi máquina anterior por menos de la mitad del precio funcionó mejor por años, hasta que murió y tuve que reemplazarla. Actualización: Después de mover la perilla para seleccionar el máximo nivel de molido he seguido con los problemas que a veces parece batallar la máquina. Pero me ha gustado que ahora, comparando con mi molino anterior, logro degustar un rico café, utilizando al menos 30% menos de cantidad por el tipo de molido.

EXCELENTE producto!!!, lo recomiendo ampliamente, la potencia al moler es perfecta, creo que lo único que le falta para ser perfecta, es que el envase de vidrio donde cae el café, debería tener una tapa aparte
