Beat ... Beat .... Beat that drum baby!! ✌️
I bought these for my grandson on his first birthday. My grandson loves music and would just beat on anything he got his hands on. He absolutely loved them and they are on the small side so I think they are great for a child. Also they are made well and held up really great to daily beatings ... LOL I would definitely buy them again.

Perfect for a 2 year old drummer!
My 2 year old daughter LOVES music, especially the drums. I wanted to wait a while before reviewing to see how durable these bongos are and I have to admit that they have surpassed my expectations. For the price I thought she'd get to play with them for a couple months and they'd break, but these little drums have withstood relentless beating with plastic drum sticks for 2 months without a sign of wear. EDIT 07/23/2013 Almost 3 years later, my 5 year old and 16 month old play with these bongos all the time. They're still in great shape! EDIT 06/12/2015 They are finally damaged by my 3 year old, but still work (see photo). The kids do not play with the bongos regularly, but I'm still surprised they held up so long. No complaints and I feel they were worth the money we paid ($24 at the time). My goal is to provide a thorough review to assist others with their purchase, as there are many choices on Amazon and I personally rely on reviews when making most of my purchases. If my review was helpful to you, please choose “yes” below. Otherwise, choose “no” and please leave a constructive comment and I will take your thoughts and/or suggestions into consideration for future reviews.

Let's be reasonable
I bought these bongos because my wife plays an African drum and our toddler thinks it is awesome. To try and bring the family together, I thought it would be fun to get our daughter some bongos to play along. For a few dollars more, there are some more professional grade looking bongos available. However, I didn't want non-baby safe hardware attached to the exterior. I just wanted a cheap set of bongos for my kid to give a good smack. Having said that, this is NOT a baby toy. Our daughter only uses the bongos under strict supervision while we are having family music time. I would NEVER recommend just giving these to a small child and turning them loose. Construction is cheap and simple. The two drums are held together with a simple wing nut. They don't look pretty enough to put on display. And that's exactly what I expected. From the picture and price, it is pretty easy to see that these are cheap drums. They're the kind of thing you buy when you just need a drum like thing. Playing a beatnik for Halloween? Perfect. Need something for a toddler to bang on while mommy and daddy are playing their expensive drum? Perfect. Professional musician looking for professional grade equipment? Come on, really? Perfect for what I needed. Only you know what will suit your needs.

Not impressed with quality
I'll be honest I don't know much about Bongos but my 7 year old daughter has been asking for some. She's not a musician, she just wants something to play with/pound on when her and her friends sing along with her karaoke machine or when they just want to have fun. I was not impressed with the quality of the drum part. Like I said, she is not a musician and neither am I but I think they sound terrible and I feel like the drum part would tear easily. I sent them back.

Cheap, poorly constructed, disappointing.
I can't recommend these. Sure they were for a two year old, but I did have an expectation that they'd arrive well constructed and with a bit of real tone difference between the two drums. Not at all. The 'skins' are sort of baked, or shrunk, or chemically dried onto the body of the drums (as opposed to stretched) and one 'skin' is bubbled, warped, and otherwise not flat or tight by any stretch (sorry) of the imagination. There is, on a scale of 1-10, a .5 tone difference between the two drums. I get more tone from different sized upside down plastic cups. The thing doesn't even accomplish a nice bongo sound (or any bongo sound), just a muted thwack. Yes, I'm holding them right. The wooden bridge between the two drums is loose, and can't be tightened in spite of the exposed wing nuts. Bummer. Even my daughter, who's been dying for bongos, was underwhelmed. Avoid these. I think I'll send them back. In fact, I'm changing this 2-star review to one. Can't believe they're charging this price for this product, which would be better valued if it dropped out of a gumball machine.

Great gift for granddaughter!
I bought these for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter for Christmas. She loves them! They are not so loud and obnoxious that the parents will hide them. Great for the child that is interested in music.

Not the best quality, but okay for the price
My baby loves percussion and I could only find "toy" bongoʻs that arenʻt even bongos - they play music when you hit them. He loves our adult bongo so we found these on Amazon and decided to order them. I know they werenʻt meant to be used by a 9 month old baby but thatʻs what Iʻm using it for so thatʻs how Iʻll review it. When the bongos are on the ground the sound gets muffled. If you have a stand for them where the bottom remains open the sound is much better. The quality is not poor but itʻs not the best. I would be worried that the black part which looks like it is glued on might fall off. Otherwise, its the best Iʻve found for the price but I wish the sound was a little louder and deeper :)
