Died After 15 Months Of Superb Sound
I loved this receiver until it died the day before yesterday - in the middle of a Star Trek episode on blu-ray, the sound died - after only 15 months of use. Tried everything including resetting, and unplugging it for a while, then I discovered a whole page of YouTube videos after I typed in "Onkyo no sound" that offer all kinds of ways to bring it back, including a hair dryer and a high wattage light bulb. The nearest Onkyo service is 600 miles from me. Wish I had known about these sound problems before I bought it, and...I will not be replacing it with another Onkyo.

Great System at a Great Price
Bought this to replace my out-dated Onkyo 7.1 Home Theater System; I needed the HDMI hook ups it has and something to hook up to my 6 speakers and subwoofer that were still hanging around. Produces excellent sound and is much easier to use than my old system. I have my Cable Receiver, Xbox 360, Xbox 1, PS4, and Blu-Ray/DVD player hooked directly to the Onkyo TC-NR545 and I still have room to hook up additional HDMI accessories. Changing the video/audio source is as easy as selecting the source on the Remote Control and presto, your watching what you want to see and hearing what you want to hear. The Bluetooth feature is nice for listening to the music I have stored on my cell phone; select Bluetooth on the remote and start enjoying. There are also plenty of settings to hear the audio the way you want to hear it. Easy to use and has Excellent Sound!!!

but all the basic functions work flawlessly and are easy to set up
Replaced an older (non-HDMI switching) AV receiver with this one. So far it is working very well. I'm not the most sophisticated videophile, so I really can't judge some of the things that it does, but all the basic functions work flawlessly and are easy to set up. The powered USB port is a very nice feature so that I can plug my Chromecast into the receiver and it gets powered by the USB port.

Got a bad one
I use these all the time for clients however this one had a problem with digital audio as the optical was intermittent and the ARC did not function at all. The replacement worked fine.

Worth every penny
I recently moved into a house with a built-in Bose audio system (a half dozen speakers and a sub woofer) but no receiver. I really knew nothing about this sort of thing since I've always used an iPod or radio or CD player and was reluctant to spend the money on something this expensive. But it seemed a waste to not use those speakers and sub woofer. After checking the Bose web site, they recommended this receiver. It works very well and has great sound reproduction. It was easy to hook up all of the speakers. It also has a built-in AM/FM radio with more presents than I could ever use. I especially like the blue tooth feature. I can stream music from Apple products such as the iPod, iPhone, iPad. I have a Roku stick which plugs into a port on the back.

First my two-year-old Onkyo died. Then the next two new ones I bought died.
After the sound in my former Onkyo receiver started failing, I started looking around for a replacement. My Onkyo receiver was noted for the audio failing after a few of years use such that Onkyo extended the warranty and included a free fix or a $125 rebate toward the purchase of a current model. My receiver was already 4-5 years old so I opted for the rebate so I could get a new model with all the current bells and whistles, like Wi-Fi, IOS app control, Bluetooth and the latest home theater audio processing. I've had this receiver for about three weeks, and guess what, the audio just cuts out whenever it feels like it. The only way to get the sound back is to switch from one input, like cable, to streaming stick (Firestick) or HTPC and back to cable. So... this one is going back in the next day or so. Thankfully, I still have time to return it to Amazon rather than deal with the manufacturer. I've never dealt with any electronic maker who did a better than mediocre job of customer service and from what I've read, Onkyo is hardly a standout in that regard. I'm not sure what I'm going to do: Do I stick with Onkyo, whose products are usually highly rated by reviewers, or do I switch to a comparable Denon, Yamaha, etc., none of which have superlative reviews? I'd really hate to spend more than I've laid out for the Onkyo but if that was necessary to get a top-rated model that is proven to be reliable, I suppose I'd swallow it. As for actually using the unit when it worked properly, I was pretty happy. The unit has more features than I'll probably use. Wi-Fi connectivity and the option of using an IOS app to control the receiver is not that really as useful as it first sounded to me. I could see using Bluetooth to send audio from my iOS devices occasionally, if I'm in the same room as the receiver and speakers. Some reviewers fault this receiver because the setup interface looks and feels like it was designed back in the '80s. I don't know about that so much but the interface of this receiver and my ancient, in tech terms, receiver is identical. All in all th is has been a decidedly' disappointing experience. Update: I swapped the defective unit for a new one and guess what? That one just failed after only six months. I suddenly will no longer turn on. I tried calling Onkyo support but that was a complete waste of time because I was stuck in voice mail hell, without even the option of a number to enter for support. Onkyo was built quality products. Now, they're not even trying.
