The Annotated Alice: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass

The definitive classic I remember from years ago
In the 1960s a lot of my friends were very interested in Lewis Carrol (probably inspired by the Jefferson Airplane song "White Rabbit") and they raved about this book. I remember admiring at their copies, but I never had a copy of my own. I was happy to find that Amazon sold new hardbound copies at a very reasonable price, so I finally bought one. I've only just skimmed it, but I'm very happy with it. My only minor criticism is that it's obviously a "remainder" copy from some bookstore, as the dust jacket is wrinkled and a series of increasingly discounted prices is written in pencil on the flyleaf. That doesn't detract from my reading enjoyment, though, and it explains the reasonable price.

very musty, but physically in great condition
the very low price is probably because of the smell. Fortunately, I know how to neutralize the smell. I am the curator for my <www.pack144.org> cub pack 's documents which date back to 1927 and which have been an excellent training ground.

This Explains a Lot of the Satire in the Books
I had never understood Carroll's satire, as many of the references are obscure, or are timely in the mid-19th Century in England. The book explains many of the references, which makes the humor even more understandable.

As Described
The book is as described. The pages are a bit discolored on the edges from age but that goes along with the description. The book looks as if it were taken pretty good care of. I would buy from this seller again.

Brought back my childhood
My favorite person bought me this book when I was 10. Thank you Ralph Wagner. It brings back wonderful memories. Without a kind and intelligent person like you in my life, who knows where I would of ended up.

I mark this day with a white stone!
It has been said by many, that one cannot know a book by its cover. In the case of "The Annotated Alice", its cover will tell you milleniums of information. Bigger than most hardcover reading books, it has a nice feel. Sorta like warm, quishly stuff. The cover is exceeding nice as hardcovers go, while the interior pages feel like well worn cotten sheets on an often used bed, the texture handling my highlighter pencil with ease. The contents should score high on the Flesch reading scale. Now about the contents of the book, as judged by its material presence can not cause any dissatisfaction, as nonsense goes. In short, you cannot have made a better choice of a book than this one.

perfectly pleasing for Alice studies
The book arrived in a more then timely fashion, in excellent condition. I've perused the book and it is exactly what I was hoping for for our "Alice in wonderland" studies. While the main part is the story itself, there is enough side notes to explain the underlying tones, metaphors and interesting trivia about the book and its author. This makes reading and studying the book easier on different levels. I would highly recommend annotated versions of classics if you want to have a chance to learn about the stories behind the story of such classics.

Five Stars
A fun read even if the story is so familiar.
