Great product for lazy people like me
This product is one of the best oil based pomades I’ve used. Out of the tin it has a harder than most texture and isn’t very pliable - it reminds me a lot of 360 waving pomade or other petroleum based Afro-hair products in that way, but after you work it through hair it melts right in and distributes easily. What I love about it is that once in the hair, it doesn’t create any sort of cast and your hair stays in place yet touchable and combable all day. But why is this great for lazy people? Because with this pomade, I can not wash my hair for 2-3 days and the product stays like new with just a couple spritzes of water. I also enjoy that I can use it for a zero volume slicked back look, but it’s still light enough that I can use it with a round brush for a pompadour and it works well for that too. For people who care about packaging and scent - this product excels there too. The packaging feels nice and the graphics are ~aesthetic~ and fun. The scent is fairly strong, yet neutral and fits with everything else. My only downside for this product, and this goes for all oil based pomades, is that this product is very hard to wash out, and you need to use a clarifying shampoo to remove it. That said, I find if I co-wash my hair but don’t comb it it creates really nice curls the day it air dries which is a neat added benefit. Overall, I really like this hair product and highly recommend it.

Great pomade, must buy for unruly pompadours!
A serious hold pomade. This is the last resort stuff, for stubborn thick hair. Hold is great. Shine is good. Scent is mellow coco…as an ultra stiff pomade, you’ll need to heat up the stuff first…I use a hairdryer. Heat up/loosen Lockhart Heavy Hold, then apply amount into hair, LASTLY use the hair dryer on your head with pomade on — this sets the pomade.

Best Oil Pomade on the Market.
I have used Goon Grease for about 8 years now and I keep coming back to it. It has the best hold while still being pliable and having a nice shine. I have very thick hair and use it to slick my hair back and it works through my hair very easily. It holds up fantastic in all weather. The weather is extremely hot and humid where I am right now and I tried a water based competitor and my hair was falling down constantly. Goon Grease holds up. The only negative which I hesitate to call a negative is that it does not wash out with the first rinse. It’s oil based and that should be expected. I have used other oil based competitors that you can feel the build up. Goon Grease doesn’t feel gunky when it doesn’t all wash out. I’m glad Lockhart continues to produce the same quality product!

Smells amazing
I recently tried Lockhart's Men's Styling Gel, and I wanted to share my honest thoughts with you. found Lockhart's Men's Styling Gel to be a decent product. On the positive side, the gel does provide a decent hold for styling. It helps tame my hair and keep it in place throughout the day, which is definitely a plus. The product also has a pleasant scent that lingers subtly. But isn’t overwhelming. However, I found that the gel can feel quite heavy and sticky on the hair. It tends to weigh down my hair and leaves a slightly greasy residue, which is not the most desirable effect. Overall this is a quality styling gel that smells great and does the job!

High quality pomade but very mild hold
I've been using oil based pomades such as most of the Murray's line, a couple Dax products, along with some randoms for years. I slick my hair with a part on one side, and based on my haircuts the top of my hair can be anywhere from slightly on the short side to the shorter end of the long hair spectrum. I have very thick, very slightly wavy Caucasus hair. This pomade smells very nice and clean like baby oil or barbershop. It melts and goes into hair without much difficulty, it is definitely not a wax-heavy product, or perhaps the microcrystalline wax is just malleable than standard. It provides a very nice supple shine, it doesn't join hair enough to be a true gloss shine but it is far from matte. It gives the hair a nice deep luster just short of it looking greasy rather than enriched. I really like the shine as a top coat to a murrays base (as shown in photos) My only real issue with this product is that it is not remotely a heavy hold. I would not even be confident to call it a medium hold. It is in between the strengths of Murray's light pomade and Murray's superior (the classic orange tin). The people who call this a heavy hold either have never used oil/wax based pomades from classic brands or have thinner hair. This pomade is very nice to use and is good quality, provides a healthy but not overdone shine, great clean smell, but just does not have remotely heavy hold. For reference the heaviest hold pomade (heaviest hair product I've used in general) is Murray's Xtra Heavy which is their superior line of pomade with extra wax. That stuff would keep my hair slick and flat on my head even through a hurricane.

Great hold, easy to apply
I'm very satisfied with this pomade. For reference I have fine, straight hair. Here are my impressions in no particular order. - Hold: If you apply enough, your hair will stay where you put it. I have a pretty difficult cowlick and this stuff tames it no problem. - Application: you're going to need to rub this between your hands to melt it enough to get it in your hair. That's the case with any heavyweight grease. However, it goes in much easier than Dax Wave & Groom (red Dax), the other heavyweight I like. It also doesn't make the comb drag nearly as much as red Dax. - Styling: As I mentioned previously, it doesn't drag the comb as much as other heavy pomades. I also typically need to wait a little while after applying before I can get my hair how I like it but that's just a thing that heavy pomades do. On subsequent days it's easy to style. - Washing out: you're either going to need to wash it out over a few days or use something like Joe's Hand Cleaner or a removing shampoo. Duh, it's a petrolatum/paraffin pomade. If you want something that washes out easily then get a water-based product. - Shine: I'd say this is a medium shine, on par with Dax High & Tight Awesome Hold. I know this is advertised as "high shine" but it won't make your hair glossy like Royal Crown hair dressing will. - Scent: VERY lemon-y. Smells like Lemon Pledge, or maybe Lemonheads. The smell doesn't really hang around though (that I've noticed) so you won't be running around smelling like furniture polish. - Buildup: this stuff stays in my hair overnight for the most part. I can wake up in the morning, touch up some places around the edges where some rubbed off on my pillow, and comb my hair in a couple minutes. All in all I'm very happy with this stuff and I will buy more.

Unfortunately disappointing. If you do not want greasy hair, stay away.
I do not know why anyone would want greasy hair, but that is what you will get with this product -- very greasy hair. The product is nearly impossible to get out of your hair, and it stays on your hands. If you have a habit of running your fingers through your hair (and I do), your hands will be greasy all day. The product caused my forehead to breakout with small zits, my pillow was greasy, my computer keyboard got greasy, my iPhone got greasy -- you get the picture. The product is difficult to get out of the can, and very difficult, if not impossible to get "spreadable" so that you can get an even coat throughout your hair. Even after working it in my hands and getting it warm (even hot), it went mainly wherever my hands touched first. It then took several minutes of working the product through my hair with a comb in order to get it to spread. It is not "medium" hold. Once you have applied enough product to cover your all of your hair, it is definitely strong hold. I do not leaving bad reviews, but I also do not like purchasing products after reading the reviews and then being surprised and disappointed. I was both surprised and disappointed with this product. The prior reviews did not explain this product properly. The one thing I did like about the product is the smell -- it smells pleasant, which is surprising. With the way the product works and with the residue it leaves that you will never get out of your hair, it seems like it should smell more like axel grease.

Heavy hold but very smooth
Hands down the strongest holding pomade I've ever tried. I used to use water based pomades but made the switch over once I started growing a pompadour. Has a great texture and very light vanilla scent. Very easy to comb through for a heavy hold, not too much shine but still has some shine in the light. Scoops out easily. Hair stays soft and flexible and is easily re combed or styled if needed. Warms up easily in hands. Have not noticed or experienced any staining or greasing on pillow cases or shirt collars which is a huge plus if you work in the office or wear collared dress shirts, etc. Does not wash out with basic shampoo so I would recommend using some dish soap like dawn and a fine tooth comb to comb through and remove if you need to degrease. You will never go back to a water based pomade once you try this stuff. I'm a barber and I recommend this if you understand how old school pomades work and are okay with it not washing out easily. One of the best if not the best holding pomades on the market, great for thermal styling, rock a billy styles, pompadours that require strong hold, and all the greasers out there that need a strong hold. I also have pretty sensitive skin when it comes to products and my forehead and this stuff doesn't cause me to breakout and is not too greasy. Very satisfied and worked as expected! Hope this helps from an independent barber and somebody who never tried a classic pomade before.
