This is a yes and no item
First of all it is smaller than I had thought. No biggie just not what I expected. Because it is small (reminds me of a flea comb) it can't take much hair out before you have to clean it and make another stroke. It's a bit difficult to get the hang of especially if your expecting it to work like it does on TV, it doesn't but then what does? So you have to hold it a certain way, comb a little, clean , comb a little, clean... but it does work. You have to have patience though and so does your pet. Definitely do as suggested and use after bathing but wait until the hair is thoroughly dry. As a help you may want to actually brush your dogs hair first ( kind of defeats the purpose right) to get the top loose hair out then come back with the shedender to get the deeper coat. If you hate cleaning up hair or have allergies this is good for keeping it at a minimum (let someone else do it for you if you have allergies or you'll suffer). It's a lot of work but it does work, you just have to put forth the effort.

So-So-ish
I hurriedly tore open the package, dragged my long-haired Chihuahua to my lap and ran it down his back. Not only did he enjoy it, but it really did seem to be gathering hair. However, much to my chagrin, when I looked down at the blanket we had been sitting on, I noted a difference. It had mysteriously turned from brown to a white-ish/tan-ish color, not to mention the layer on my clothing. I was trying to get rid of the hair, not evoke it away from his body and onto mine. I also, whilst using it after that initial brushing, noticed that because of the way the teeth are positioned, every once and a while, he would tense up and I would hear a little ripping noise, like it had actually torn out some of his hair. The hair would get stuck in the crevices between the teeth and get tangled and then rip out. I rate this a 3 because even without a change in angle, the brush began to rip out hair instead of weed out the shedded hair and it would be useful to include a tool (even something to generate some static cling, like a piece of rubber or a lint-roller for god's sake) to help clean the hair up that you, the pet owner, can use to clean the hair frock you just created on the front of your shirt and the new fuzzy blanket covering your legs.

Works very well
This product does work very well at getting the excess hair off my dog. I have a half pug half chow. His hair is short/medium length. But when he shed the hair likes to stay in there and is really puffy which is strange because his hair is really thin and sleek. I can run a brush or comb through his hair and then use this and get even more out. So it does work very well. The reason for four stars is because it takes forever! This would be best for a small dog up to like fifteen pounds in my opinion. But if you don't mind taking the time to brush through your fur babies coat I would highly suggest this as it gets EVERYTHING out!

Definite difference
I have a 90lb retriever chow mix and shedding was a way of life. It took a good 2-3 days to get thru his whole coat since he doesn't care for being brushed for long periods of time. But it has been totally worth it. Don't see half as much hair as I use to and his coat looks nicer then before which I didn't think was possible. I've used other brushes and never got the results I got from this. Purchased being very skeptical and came out impressed. Total recommend. Just make sure u keep combing in the direction of the hair and never against it can tug and hurt ur dog.

A tale of two kitties
I purchased this for one particular cat. I have two long hair cats and this only works on one of them. Their coats are entirely different - one has slick hair and no undercoat, the second has superfine hair and a thick undercoat. The first cat doesn’t leave much in the Shed Ender. I’ve pulled enough hair out of the second cat to make three other cats. It’s helped his fur not retain dirt or oil. He feels better and there’s isn’t nearly as much fur all over the house. I do wish the head was larger so it wouldn’t take so long to brush him, but you can order a larger head separately. I don’t want to pay even more for a second head, when I just bought this comb.

Not Packaged as Advertised
Not sure if the item works as it was intended for a gift...but please be aware that this is NOT in packaging as shown. It arrived loose, wrapped in a little plastic in a worn looking "Made in China" box. Very misleading and not suited for gift-giving.

Former Cynic
I rarely believe advertisements. Usually people will say anything to sell their product. My cat was shedding horrifically and I went to a pet store to look at these de-shedding tools. If this puppy did not work I was not about to pay 20-39 dollars for the thing. I got curious and came on to Amazon to check it out and see if I could get it cheaper. Much to my surprise, I did and with what I had to pay, was not allot to lose if it didn't work. I have to admit, I am no longer cynical about this tool. It works like a charm and I couldn't be more pleased.I am really glad I have it now. It definitely makes a difference. My cat likes to be brushed but really doesn't like this tool. It is not soft enough for him but he tolerates it and I love it!

Can't go without it!!
I have a bishon frise that I brush three times a day. Took her to camp while I went out of town for a week and came back she had knots everywhere. The groomers wanted to shave her into a lamb cut. I refused and went home to try and comb thru myself. Tried for about an hour and didnt get anywhere. Saw the product on Amazon brought it, shipped same day and had it the next day. I loved how this product works right thru the knots. It was quick and easy. I now use it every day and it only takes me ten minutes to comb thru all her soft fluffy hair, tangles, knots and all. I brought a second one just in case I loose this one.
