The Notebook

One can only s ay some book NEVER go out of date and the is one pof those book. It was a excellent choice. And the book club had a ball talking about it.

Sooo, I read this book in 2003 when I was in high school at age 17. As soon as I finished the book I knew my life had been impacted forever. The idea of an EPIC love grew within me and it changed the way I viewed relationships in our modern world. I grew up and stopped dating my high school sweetheart, Lester. In 2008 tragedy struck his life and has been away in a distant land separated from home and his loved ones. I think that ever since then I've avoided even watching the motion picture. Told myself that Epic Love is only written in Nicholas Sparks books and became angry at the men that came into my life. Well, throughout the years i always thought of that sad boy and what became of his life. All along I craved a love so pure and genuine like Lesters but never found it. We are now 34 years old. On June 14th, 2020 Lester came rushing back into my life. Well more like, I came rushing in like a hurricane if you ask him, bringing back old memories of a safer easier time. Our story began with a letter from him when we were 14 years old. Asking me if I wanted to speak on our parent's house phone. I was an overprotected child and if my mother found out I was speaking to a boy, she would make sure that I cut all connections with him. So we kept our (young love) a secret. We went to different high schools so he would sometimes ask his mom to drop him off at my high school so he could say hi and see me for 5 minutes. One day, Lester showed up with his mother wanting to speak with my mother about allowing us to date of course while always having a chaperone around us. My mother was soooo upset, but his boldness won her over and she agreed as long as we were being supervised. Years passed and we turned 17 and I wanted to experience different things. So we ended things and went separate ways. 19 years later, we are in a loving relationship. As soon as we reconnected we just knew God had made us for each other. Our story is definitely not The Notebook, but it's a reminder that Epic Love does exist and it can withstand time and circumstances. We are also going to be writing our love story and how God rushed in and saved us both from living empty lonely lives. Right now, we are believing God for a miracle. In the meantime, while we wait for our circumstances to change and for God's mercy over his life. I sent him The Notebook. Noah and Allies story has brought a timeless love back to us. Through Nicholas Sparks words, we get to read about faith and destiny. To believe in the power of love and how two people so lost can find each other once again. I know Lester will be coming home sooner than we anticipated. This book meant everything to me while growing up. It gave me hope. I hope you guys enjoy your love stories. And if it hasn't happened yet, don't worry, your Epic Love Story will arrive and you will be glad you never settled.

Great book and it was in good condition very pleased with my purchase

I watched "Great American Reads" this week and one section was dedicated to this book, which everyone who read it absolutely loved. I knew it was about a woman with Alzheimer's and obviously that intrigued me. I was also looking for another quick read, still recovering from the Kavanaugh debacle. So I ordered it and finished it in one sitting. I don't know what to say about this book. It's a lovely love story--the kind of forever after love that everyone hopes to have, fraught with first love, heartbreak, and reuniting, but tinged with the tragedy of Alzheimer's. My problem is that the Alzheimer's just didn't ring true. I know everyone is different but Allie, who suffers from Alzheimer's after nearly 50 years of marriage, seems not to be able to recognize the love of her life, but accepts him as a new friend and their story is fresh whenever he tells it...but though she does not know his name or who he is, she has lost none of the ability to speak eloquently and that is SO contrary to what I am experiencing with my mother that I just couldn't believe that part of it. The letter she writes to Noah as they are about to enter a senior facility, knowing that her symptoms will inevitably become worse, was so perfect that it could not possibly have been written by someone whose Alzheimer's had progressed to the point of needing to move to a facility.

I absolutely love this story. A great read for anyone. The strength of faith and love and determination to hold on to true love, and never let go.

While The Notebook is a classic love story, I felt it was unnecessarily sappy at times. The romance between Noah and Allie is beautiful, but the plot was a little clichéd, and the characters lacked depth in several aspects. If you enjoy dramatic, tear-jerking romances, this is the book for you; however, if you prefer more nuanced characters and writing, it may fall short.

I love The Notebook film so much (probably like most women!). It’s hard to describe why maybe because it is a feel-good movie along with being utterly heartbreaking. It is so full of emotion and the perfect Romantic film! So, I decided to give the book a read; I hadn’t even realised it was based on a book until I was doing the research for my Reading Challenge ‘a book made into a movie you’ve already seen’. I’m not a big lover of reading the book after seeing the film; I’d much rather do it the other way around. I figured, though, I couldn’t go much wrong with this choice and it only being 215 pages if it were terrible it wouldn’t take me long to read! I definitely couldn’t go wrong with the book; it was just as amazing as the film. The two run very well in parallel; there isn’t a lot different between the two, other than the order it is all presented to you. In the film it is more chronological, we see Allie and Noah meet, forced apart and the reunion etc. However, in the book, it is a little more reminiscing involved, so the timeline isn’t as fluid. I can certainly see why certain things were adapted for cinematic storytelling. It wasn’t hard to follow everything in the book, though. It all flowed well but wouldn’t have translated to the big screen if it had followed the same chapter to scene etc. It was so lovely to read this and be able to visualise how everything and everybody looked based on the film. I’ve seen it so many times everything is very familiar. I thought I would be bored reading it knowing how it ended and everything that was going to happen but this wasn’t the case at all. It entrances you just as much as the film does. The characters are wonderful, the story enlightening and tragic. It was beautifully written, and I am tempted to read the follow on story of Noah and Allie’s children. So very happy that I chose this book for this category of the Reading Challenge and that I gave a book after a movie a chance! It wasn’t anywhere near as bad and experience as I’d expected! More was the case with this book of a feeling of visiting old friends!
