Is this product BPA free?

On the box, it says "This product is made of pure food grade Silicone Rubber that can withstand temperatures of - 22 F to 450 F. The website for this product is www.fredandfriends.com and the product is Made in China. There is no mention of BPA on the box.

Can he be used with a tea bag inside?

I never tried it, but that would make sense if you want to avoid getting those grounds out afterwards. On the other hand, the reason for using mr. Tea is because you would have loose tea and needed something to hold the tea in. I put a tea bag in it, steeped it for 3 min. and it worked perfectly. One bit of advice: Rinse the mr.T under cold water before opening him and getting the tea bag out, otherwise it will be too hot. So either wait till it cools or cold water rinse.

I think you (or they) will be fine! It's silicone and kind of "sticks" to the rim, mine has never slid around.

Does any of the loose leaf tea come out of the holes? Im just worried that they are too big compared to a traditional mesh type infuser.

My first time using it, and right away I noticed tea leaves floating in my mug. It’s so adorable, but I’m a little disappointed.
