Q: Is the 16awg on thew whole cable or on each pin in the cable? There are 3 pins in an XLR cable.

I haven't taken this apart, but it's been my experience in the past that 16 gage means each wire. Love this company. Quality products for low prices. This works great for me.

Q: this says male xlr to female xlr. Can I use it the opposite way?

I think he is asking if these cables are directional..like say a DAC XLR output needs a female input cable to a male XLR input into an amplifier. So female to male. I think that is what his point or question was

There is nothing wrong with the Monoprice, they are very robust and decent quality. I think the Mogami may have better components but not necessarily more durable.

Most of the XLR connectors have a tab connected to the metal body of the connector by the screw that holds the connector together you can use this for your extra ground.
