Q: has anyone washed these containers in the bottom rack of the dishwasher (I have more space there)?

I strongly discourage you from buying these. The lids break so easily. I imagine they’d shatter like glass in a dishwasher. If I were you, I’d search for a better quality set.

Q: Can these containers accept hot food ... as in from a dining room buffet table?

I don't see why not. I put them in the dishwasher and they get heated up really hot on the finale sanitize mode.
