Build Your Own Electric Vehicle, Third Edition [LEITMAN, Seth] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Build Your Own Electric Vehicle, Third Edition Review: VERY USEFUL - It reviews existing battery technologies, physics involved, clearly explains the main differences between IC engines and electric motors, which I have not thought about. It also provides cost estimates, provides for the various components required and useful advice about other things to consider more in the practical side. Review: Lots of Charts and Graphs - I had high hopes for this book. The author included lots of formulas, charts and graphs which were quite helpful from a design perspective and his advice on streamlining and air flow was insightful. However, I was left with a desire to see something more like a Chilton’s handbook or Motor’s Manual with detailed descriptions. Also I would have liked to have seen more real world examples of EVs that have been built by their owners. Unfortunately the author did not truly address the fragile nature of the existing U.S. power grid and the impact of EVs upon the grid; nor did he fully acknowledge the environmental impact of the mining process for the lithium and minerals required for the current generation of batteries.

This book has a lot of great information.
It is very inspiring. Without this information in the hands of the general public we have no hope for an EV future. The public needs to have the facts in order to effect change. If not we will be dependent on foreign fuel and all the negative impacts that it entails.

Not a Technical How To
There is good information here, but it is buried in a lot of anecdotes and filler that appear to be about making the book bigger. If you want to find out what's possible, this book will help, but if you are looking for a nuts and bolts breakdown, there are better resources available that will get to the point a lot sooner.

GREAT ASSET BUT LACKS OF DRAWINGS
The book appeared a great asset of information about EVs either new built or conversion. However the information is more general and if you want to get it more specific this book is not in much help. I personally was skimming the information and did not read it thoroughly, as about 95% of informaiton is very common taken from the Internet. Instead of drawings there are just pictures which are great, but they are not in much help. I consider this book more as a good motivator and some kind of starting point in aquiaring information for EVs enthusiasts. Definitely is will occupy the easy to reach place on my bookshelf and wouldn't be covered by dust. In general I would recommend it to all hobbyist and EV curious people.

Out of date info too hard to return
The info in this is all a decade or more old and the technology have advanced considerably since then. I tried to return it because the info is basically useless. They made me print out my own return label but since I don't have a printer I have to have it printed at walgreens but I it was extremely hard to download it in the proper format. It displayed as a .gif. It's like they're trying to make it too hard to return so I just give up.

Contains interesting information. Still the little maths about driving mechanics is not well explained and uses miles instead of the metric system
