Arminius and His Declaration
This book by Dr. Gunter concerning Arminius and his "Declaration" is a great book. For one, Gunter does a fantastic job of orienting the reader in the historical context. He walks the reader through the numerous religious-political conflicts and debates of the time, often painting decent portraits of key persons in Arminius' life. Part 1 of the book is this history and biography of Arminius. Part 1 does a great job situating Arminius' "Declaration" in is context. Part 2 is probably my favorite part of the book. It is a re-translation of Arminius' "Declaration of Sentiments" into English, done by Dr. Gunter. Part 3 is the commentary on the "Declaration." For anyone who would like to study Arminius or is studying Arminius, this is an important book to read. It provides a new translation of the "Declaration" as well as an accessible interpretation of it.

but the important thing is the book itself was in good condition with very little marking
I've always wanted to read Arminius and now I can. I wish it had come with the book jacket; but the important thing is the book itself was in good condition with very little marking.

A Book with Great Value
"This book has great value as the first English translation of Arminius' Declaration of Sentiments directly from the original Dutch. Previous English versions were translations of a Latin version of the original Dutch. Gunter is linguistically and theologically up to the task of this translation.Added value is found in the Introduction which sets the historical table to be able to appreciate the place of the Declaration. The commentary that follows the translation is also a valuable addition to the discussion that is presently attracting renewed interest. It might have been helpful to place the Dutch original, the Latin translation, and the new translation all in parallel columns for comparison. However, this book is a worthwhile addition to any theological library. It is essential reading for anyone who would like to understand the broad Reformed tradition."
