Seiko 5 Sports Automatic Black Dial Men's Watch SNZB23J1

Wanted a sporty-looking watch with day-date. Seiko makes excellent watches. Made in Japan. Great automatic movements from them. Ideally, I would have preferred a battery-quartz watch but can live with the automatic. Probably will need to buy a winder. I personally like the “U” shaped watch band pins for sizing the band, versus the former “pin” or “pin and collar” bands. U-pins make it much easier to adjust the band.

Nice watch overall. There is texturing on the face that adds greatly to the appearance and the chrome number markers contrast nicely. The diameter of the face is smaller but the overall size of the watch case and band width are a perfect size for my wrist (I am of average size). The black bezel looks more like black chrome than a mat black (I like it). The automatic feature does not last the stated 46 hours. If I don't wear the watch for a day the morning of the second day it has stopped. Time is not spot on accurate, it appears to be running slow. Overall though I like the features and appearance of the watch for the price.

This Seiko 5 automatic watch is a fine thing, substantial without being weighty, good-sized without looking like a dinner plate, and pretty accurate to boot.It came nicely packaged and needed only to be given a "brandy-snifter" turn in the hand to give it life. (There have been a couple of days in these early weeks that I haven't worn the watch and found it dead in the morning.As far as sizing goes, I found that after removing two links from either side of the bracelet, the fit was pretty much spot-on for my slightly-less-than-seven-inches wrist. The adjustment was something I did myself and in good time, with the aid of a strong desk lamp and a mechanic's probe. (I am currently waiting for a NATO strap for use in the remainder of the warm weather.) (FYI: It measures 40mm across the face, excluding the crown.)This watch has a great understated look and should serve me well for many years.

Early arrival

Finally broke down and bought myself an automatic Seiko and I'm not disappointed. Great value.

Watch will stop overnight and has to be reset every morning. Also after set it often runs for a short time then stops again. Seiko should recall all these poor quality watches, not up to Seiko standards at all.
