Digitally remastered two CD anthology from the Scottish Progressive Rock band. Drawing on material from the band's first four albums, recorded for the legendary Vertigo label, Nimbus features 27 of the band's best tracks. Their 1970 debut album, Act One, gained some success in Europe with tracks such as 'Poet and Peasant' and 'Passacagalia'. a successful European hit single, 'Sarabande', was followed by the album Waters of Change, arguably their best and most successful album. The record included the classic 'Time Machine', along with the memorable 'Silver Peacock' and 'I've No Idea'. Pathfinder from 1972 was another classic album and featured a wonderful cover of Jim Webb's 'MacArthur Park' along with 'The Witch' and 'Hobo'. The band's final album for Vertigo, 1973's Get Your Dog Off Me, saw line-up changes, but included a fine cover of Mason Williams' 'Classical Gas' and saw further European success for the band. This anthology is a fine tribute to an inspiring band and has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes, and features a booklet with new essay.

A tightrope walking Prog band
These guys slipped under my radar in the early 70’s. Discovered them a few years ago after picking up “Pathfinder” at a thrift store. Long story short chased down their first six, but this compilation of the first four lp’s is by far the best value out there. Great stuff.

Great band
I never heard of them before. I am happy I was able to discover them. They seemed to be an under appreciated band, more talented than their fame.

great album, but alas not completely a 'best of' album...
Great sampler, HOWEVER!The first fabulous 3 Beggars Opera albums are collected in their entirity on this Anthology dubbel-cd. That's a good job! The only mistake is: they put a totally wrong selection of songs (4) on this album from Beggars Opera's 4th album, called "Get Your Dog Of Me". This 4th album is a musical disaster, except for maybe 2 songs (of which only 1 is represented here: "Classical Gas"). It would have been a beter idea to put some demos from the first 3 albums on this double CD, or even much better: a couple of high quality live tracks from around 1972...Alwin - the Netherlands

Is this review about the item or the group? well whichever it's all quality, the music is great and the item also. Not much else to say except it was a good price compared to other sites.

Whacky
Beggars Opera were a delightfully oddball early prog band who threw in everything to their musicalmix, lots of entertaining snippets of rocked up popular classics.

Band on top form, at the beginning of their career !
Beggars Opera, were at their best in their early recordings. This set consists of some of the best tracks, and to pick up the double CD at the price is a no brainer.Really worth a listen !
