Pack is OK but Amazon was misleading
My 4-star rating is for the pack itself. IMHO, the product I received, based on features and price, is between 3 and 4 but I gave it the benefit of the doubt.I would give Amazon one star because its listing is misleading. Once again, as so many customers have complained about so many other product listings, Amazon mixes together different models under a single listing. Caveat emptor. Two features that appear in the default description for this listing motivated me to purchase the pack. First, it seemed to have just the right number of straps to be useful. Specifically, it has a sternum strap but does not have a superfluity of other straps that just get in the way for someone (like me) who plans to use this as an urban pack. I already have other packs with all manner of straps and load bearing features for hiking in rural or wilderness settings. Those features tend to get in the way when I am using transit and especially when I am using a pack for grocery shopping. The multiple straps on the day pack I was using kept getting caught in the shopping cart and it was tedious to extract them so I could pack my groceries home. This pack doesn't do that. It will become my default grocery shopping bag and that is why I'm giving it 4 stars. The second feature listed but missing from the product received is that it has a laptop pocket with BOTH internal and external access. This was the killer feature I was hoping to get. I suspect it only comes with the higher priced models in this listing but again, all the models are lumped together. The pack seems well made, reasonably light and likely to be durable. It is minimalist in its approach to zippers and straps; on other packs, these are often a cource of problems.I'm sure I'll be using this pack. I just wish it offered quick access to the tablet that I carry much of the time. Too often, I have to dig through the main compartment every time I want to access the tablet, and I had anticipated that this pack would solve that issue.

College Student here - Perfect pack
TL:DR - 5 out of 5. Will be buying again if ever my first pack wears out or I need to gift this pack to any unlucky soul having a lesser backpack. I purchased this pack as a way to improve my college backpacking experience. I have found over my primary school years that backpacks under $40 do not stand up to a large amount of abuse. Abuse being defined as a large quantity of books, and supplies place in the pack at one time. The Burton Tinder pack solves this problem by providing grade A+ material and design. I love the single main compartment, laptop compartment and outside zipper compartment. These three compartments create a slim, simplistic, and versatile feel that typical school backpacks lack. While having more compartments (like a standard backpack) is nice if you like to organized items by category in separate areas, my school needs only require two areas (sametime the laptop compartment too). Thus I find this pack perfect for most if not all college students’ needs. The only "difficulty" I have with the tinder pack (and when I say difficulty I do not mean an actual challenge, more like slight technique adjustment) is that there is a flap at the top of the inside of the pack that is corded to tighten down and secure the items on the inside. This flap occasionally gets in the way of binders with exterior rings, and book edges. This occurred at the beginning of my purchase, but now I simply adjust the flap to direct it downward to place items inside or upward to take items out. The minor style change is well worth the additional flap as inclement weather does slow me down any more, as I have this flap to prevent water from easily ruining my book/papers. Additionally for the negative sides, I will say this pack does not hold a day’s worth of courses (for me that is 4 courses and a few extracurriculars). At a maximum I have carried with me 3 full size chemistry books, 3 one inch binders a laptop, and various writing utensils.

Simple and sleek, understated design, super functional with more compartments than expected
Love this backpack because it is very sleek and understated. There is very little obvious branding on it, even the Burton logo on the top is black and muted. The only standout is a small bar across the left strap that has Burton written in white letters, but this could easily be snipped off.The pack is a very good size, you won't fit a ton of stuff in here and would be difficult to pack for a long weekend, but its perfect for around town or an overnight for me. I love that the straps are kept to a minimal, and the pack has some moderate structuring to it to maintain its sleek lines. It looks good as a city pack.It also has a good number of compartments. The laptop sleeve is well padded, as is the entire bottom of the pack which gives it some form and rigidity. The top pouch is undivided, and this is where I keep the items I need regular access too (headphones, snacks, charger). In front of the laptop sleeve there is a smaller sleeve that is good for sliding in a notebook or magazine and keeping it separate from the stuff floating freely in the back. The laptop pouch is also accessible directly from a zipper down the side, handy when going through TSA. There is also a mesh zippered compartment on the front face of the inside, facing the laptop sleeve and the interior. (See photo, kind of hard to describe) On the whole, there are a lot more compartments than I expected in such a sleek back! The lack of extra webbing and straps means that this bag doesn't expand or compress at all really, but to me this is a plus. I had a northface recon for a long time and go so tired of how cluttered it looked with its myriad zippers and compression straps across the sides and even bottom! I had straps hanging everywhere. Not so with this one, simple but super functional and at a great price.

Great bag for commuting!
Great looking backpack with lots of space. Easily can fit my laptop in here with my lunch and a spare pair of shoes for my commute to and from the office.Has a small zippered pouch inside of the main compartment to keep your odds and ends (chargers, usb keys etc.). The zippered pouch on the top flap is great for things you need to quick access to.There is a side zipper that runs the entire height of the bag that lets you access the laptop compartment of the bag without undoing the buckles and drawstrings of the main compartment. This feature is especially handy for getting my book in and out of the bag on the subway quickly.A nice bonus is the bag appears to be waterproof - I got stuck in a torrential downpour for about 5 minutes before I got to shelter and the water droplets were just beading up on the bag and nothing inside got wet.All in all a great bag that I can see lasting a really long time.

Amazing quality
I love this backpack! It's very sturdy and well made, the zipper on the top flap is a pretty good idea, the drawstrings are wonderful, and it has a great look to it as well. The padding on the back is soooooo good! I could put a water bottle in the compartment closest to the back and I still wouldn't feel it once on my back. The zipper on the side (laptop compartment) is really good, I will be using it for my laptop soon. The only dislike I have about it is that it can be a bit tight with a lot of school binders in terms of space--the space in the bottom isn't very expansive. If you don't have a lot of stuff for school, it's a perfect backpack, but if you do you will spend a little more time than usual packing stuff away.

It's okay
Good bag, feels solid and we'll put together. My only complaint is that there isn't really any compartments except one sleeve and so it can be difficult to find something in the bag when it's full. Also the side zipper doesn't open on the bag, only opens on the sleeve so you can't see the content of the bag and what's at the bottom.I grabbed it on sale at 35$. I wouldn't recommend paying more than that.
