Fifty Wooden Boats: A Catalog of Building Plans, Vol.1

Got exactly what I expected/ ordered.

I used this book to copy images onto fabric and make a quilt for someone crazy about sailboats. For that purpose, it worked perfectly. Good quality paper, and sharp images with high resolution. These plans, though, are STUDY PLANS, not enough to actually build from.

This book is essentially a catalogue of boat plans available from a variety of different designers. Each boat has 2-4 pages of plans and descriptions of the boat. There isn't enough detail to actually build the boats, you generally need to purchase full plans from the individual designers. Prices are included with each plan.The boats range from a 7'7" sailing pram to a 41' cruising yacht and include prams and tenders, rowing boats, power boats, daysailers and cruisers. Overall there is a good range of different designs.This information is freely effectively available on the Woodenboat Magazine website along with something like 600 other boat plans. If you only want to find plans, stick to the net. You'll get just as much info online and a better range and at no cost. However, there is something nice about holding the plans in your hand. By the book if you would like to flip through the pages, I highly recommend it.

I bought all three of the Wooden Boat plans catalogs and have spent hours drooling and dreaming as I thumb through them.These are for aspiring home builders and priceless for those more acquainted with wooden boat plans and designs.If you just love wooden boats or want to build one yourself, these are mandatory reading and dreaming material.

it's OK ,good for ideas, for a desiger..but it is a bit lacking as many of the designs are very simple

I was looking forward to seing more detaild of the plans and skill level and materials requires. Not enoukh information to make me interested in purchasing any of the plans

This is volume one of a series published by the American Model Boat Magazine hence most of the dinghy, yacht and other sailing vessels are Transatlantic in origin. The book is A4 sized so it could prove beneficial to copy the plans onto one's computer and expand it for construction purposes. Some of the boats are small so they could make an initial project. There are indexes for other (American mainly) suppliers of equipment and plans as well as a breakdown of wood types and what they are useful for. Overall a great introduction to making sailing yachts etc..

brillant book about wooden boats, my son says for whom I bought this one. He started an apprenticeship as a boat builder and thinks it's very helpful to build his own one day to come!
