Everyone matters, little choices change lives
I loved this story! The characters are all so relatable that they became my friends like I was there in the room. It speaks to the importance of relationships and honesty. Even though God is never directly mentioned a Higher Power is acknowledged briefly in words but obviously at work through the way life works itself out. A great investigation into the human psyche, the power of friendship/mentorship & the beauty of grace. We may not forget past wounds & hardships but we can heal from them by helping others. I highly recommend this story & that you Stay with it till the end.

Oh my heart!
"Also, I should note that in my opinion, we’re all wounded humans. The rest is just a matter of degree."I loved the evolution of Lucas Painter and his whole world growing up around him the way it did.

Choices
This author never fails me. I learn something about myself and consider the same in others when I read her books. We never know the potential impact of our actions, the path influenced by our actions. And caring for others - always caring.

Destined to be a classic.
One of those books you should be assigned to read in high school English, and then you keep it because it is deep and touching and helped you grow up.

Excellent
This book is incredible. Each main character is interesting and well developed. I felt their pain & their joy, their sorrow & their angst. Intriguing storyline.

Best storyline
I've read so many of Catherine Ryan-Hyde's books and they just keep getting better. So many life lessons. I love how the characters grow to be family. I feel like I could walk into the woods and find Zoe's house. What an adventure.

Truly remarkable
Catherine Ryan Hyde does it again. Being the daughter of a military veteran who was in Vietnam this touched my heart.

A great book on the complexity of what we mean to others
Beautifully written account of the bittersweet brushes with mental health, addiction and suicide and the realisation we stay for others when we cannot find a reason for ourselves. Very thought provoking well written with commanding characters and deep empathy and sensitivity. As someone who lost my Dad and Brother to suicide and who has PTSD this really resonated with me and as someone who has had counselling spreads some important messages of hope and the enormous value of being there even if you say nothing. A wonderful book

Very good novel
I wasn't sure about this story at first.I almost gave up reading it after a couple of chapters. But something told me to keep reading a few more chapters then I couldn't put it down.It was very intense at times but in a good way that you wanted to keep reading further until the end.One of best novels I have read in a long time.

Nothing much going for the story!
All about a young lad trying to stop his friend, and another lady from wanting to end their lives! Not what I want to read about, although there wasn't anything horrific about the book. It just rolled along.

So Wise
I have read quite a few of Catherine Ryan Hyde's books so far, but never written a review. This is because my head is always so full, I can't find the words. I am stunned by the wisdom, and the loving generosity of her thoughts on the world and the people who live in it. So, sorry, but this still isn't a review. You will have to read it for yourself. It will be worth it.

Great!
Audio Version - A book that captivated me from the very start and all the way through to the end. Although a difficult subject matter to cover, it was a heart warming storyline. The character's were really amazing, especially Lucas and Zoe. They came to life through the fantastic audio narration. Definitely would recommend.
