But it is a great amount of information on the hiking trails up there
I purchased this book to help me put together a backpacking trip to complete the full loop of the Timberline Trail. I was hoping that this would have more information on places to camp, and how to negotiate the Eliot Crossing. "Around & About Mount Hood" did not have much on those two topics. But it is a great amount of information on the hiking trails up there. I will be sure to use it a lot in the future on shorter day hikes.

Did not meet our expectations
Looking for information about hikes around Mount Hood, we bought this book after reading the reviews written by other buyers.Do not expect colorful photos illustrating the hikes, you have to be satisfied with some black and white photos and some sketches of birds and plants. The information about the hikes is detailed, but if you are not familiair with the area you might have some difficulties finding the trailheads.

Fantastic book!
This is a fantastic hiking book with a series of hikes around Mount Hood that are good for hard-core hikers and for families. I have been hiking on Mt Hood for over 40 years and was delighted to find so many new trails with classic NW views. On many of the hikes you can see a series of Cascade mountains, wildflowers, waterfalls and wild life. Pack this book, your 10 essentials and start exploring!

Hiking on Mt Hood is one of the best experiences you can have in the great outdoors of beautiful Oregon. I’ve hiked in many countries and can truly call myself a worldwide hiker so have sampled many guidebooks. This book ranks right at the top. The hikes are comprehensively and clearly described. The attention to detail, at which Sonia Buist excels, is superb and the text is enhanced with lovely sketches and interesting facts which bring the whole thing to life. Oregonian or visitor, this pocket-sized guide is an absolute MUST have. Use it and enjoy…I did!

Window on to a special world
We explored part of the glorious Timberline Trail with this more-than-essential guide. It was summer. Rivers were now vast fields of bleached stones. Meadows waved with deep grass and wild flowers. And occasionally you would enter a clearing, turn a corner or come out on top of an incline and there was Mount Hood in its grandeur. The guide is essential - you would lost without it. But it is more than that, it unites practical information with the spirit of Mount Hood and inspires you to explore further.

An expert guide to a little piece of heaven
Oregon is one of the most beautiful states in the US and Mount Hood, its majestic soul. There is no better guide to this heaven on earth than Sonia Buist. Her walks are thoughtfully described and extensively tested. They work for the adventurous and for families and having this guide to hand will help you get the very best from Mount Hood. My only caveat is that there aren't enough flowers featured in this - Mount Hood has magnificent wild flowers, so remember to take a wild flower book with you.

The definitive guide on Mt. Hood
Here's a book you really can tell by its cover: the splendid view from one of the author's favorite hikes. Among the strengths of this slender volume are trail descriptions from either direction, as well as carefully detailed routes to each trailhead. The narrative includes verbal snapshots of the mountain's rich history that make this book enjoyable after the hike as well. Every hiker we encounter on the trail wants a copy of this guide.
