Gorgeous Book Chock Full of Instructions, Project Ideas, and More!
I bought this for my daughter, who is extremely crafty, to go along with her sewing machine. The book gives a wonderful, easy-to-follow breakdown of how to properly use a sewing machine. The pictures are beautifully detailed, and my daughter had no problem understanding things like how to thread the bobbin and measure fabrics. There are a variety of templates, patterns, project ideas, and instructions on how to go about creating them. Her favorite creations were a tote bag and a pencil case. I would recommend this book for anyone who has a young girl, or boy, in their life that loves to express themselves through arts and crafts.

A Great First Book for Kids Learning to Sew on a Machine
This is an excellent book which I much prefer to a DVD;I bought it to go along with the new Brother Sewing Machine which I purchased for my granddaughter for Christmas. She reads very well, and has been wanting to sew on my machine since last summer. She is only six, but we will take it slowly, step by step. I purchased material, thread, etc. for her as well. I also plan to cut out some felt hand puppets for her to sew at first. This book explains the parts of a sewing machine, and has simple projects to begin with. As a retired teacher, I highly recommend this book.

Great book for my daughter!
Daughter received this along with a new sewing machine this Christmas. She's already reviewed all the parts listed in the book (I had to show her the differences between the books labeling of the machine with her new machine). There are pages in the book that you are to copy and have them practice with sewing on the machine -- straight stitch, lock stitching, curves, and pivot turns. She finished all the sheets this evening and feels confident about knowing how to sew basic stuff.I had to run through with her how to thread the needle and insert the bobbin, but that's something that will have to be individualized to the specific machine. After all the practice, I'm comfortable with her working on a project now. They have a few simple projects (pillow, tote bag, ipod case, etc.) that she's excited to try. The only thing I would have liked is for them to stress the importance of measuring, and using proper tools to make and prepare a pattern (ruler, flat surface, good scissors, etc.) before embarking on a project. They do list those tools at the beginning of the book, but they don't really talk about it when you get to the projects, and what you should be doing. They just tell you to cut this length of fabric how many inches. My daughter is 8-years-old and is pretty crafty and an advanced reader. She has a pretty good attention span. This was perfect for her.

Great book for introducing kids to sewing.
I am using this book to teach a 9 year old how to sew. I like the book because of the pictures and illustrations. I like the projects because each week my student learned new sewing skills and then had the chance to make a project and take it home. The projects are keeping her interested. Her goal is to learn how to make doll clothes but the skills that she is learning will help her to do other types of sewing as she matures.

Great teaching tool
This book was very helpful in teaching my great grand daughter to become interested in learning to sew. She was able to read through the book to understand threading the machine, etc. I was able to make copies of stitching pages for her to practice her stitching techniques.

Great idea, but needs more content
The book was visually cute. I gave it 3 stars because it boosted my daughter's confidence so that she would start using her machine. We were finished with this book in 30 minutes (my daughter is 10). The guides for learning to sew were the most helpful part of this book. There are a few project ideas in the back that we might do later.Overall, it was a good book, but not worth the amount charged for it. The book is such a good idea and it could be SO much better with more content. There is still so much we don't know about sewing... like how to use a pattern or select stitch types/tension or button holes. I feel like we need something else now.

My First Sewing Machine Book; Learn To Sew; Kids
This is a very nice little book. It teaches the young reader the names of the different parts of the sewing machine. How to use the sewing machine. Very nice for the child who wants to learn to use a sewing machine. I bought it for one of my great granddaughters. She is 8 and wants to sew on her own sewing machine which she will be getting soon. She reminds me of myself when I was her age I loved to sew scraps of fabric together by hand. I'm still sewing some 70 plus years later.

Excellent book!
This is a great book for beginners. It is very informative and easy to read. My daughter is ten years old and just received her first sewing machine. This book explained all the basics of the machine and was filled with sewing steps in language that she could relate to. She practiced for two days with the paper exercises in this book. We simply made copies and she set there for hours learning how to control her foot pedal, raise and lower her presser foot and pivot properly. I would highly recommend it for any beginner.
