Too many examples, not enough actual facts and definitions
This was my required textbook for an Assessment and Outcomes class, and I really disliked this book because the authors use too many examples and not enough factual information. Each section of the book would begin with a factual statement, and then it would immediately transition into "At Bowling Green State University..." or "Staff from the University of South Carolina Columbia..." or "Student support units at Emory University..." I love a good example, they can really help drive a point home, but this book is nothing BUT examples and it makes it very tedious to read. If you took out all the paragraphs about how various universities run their assessments then this book would probably be no more than 50 pages long.

The authors did a great job of addressing academic assessment at many different scales
I appreciated that the authors examined assessment across multiple scales - from individual assignments or courses up to institutional effectiveness. I found lots of great ideas that I can incorporate into my department's assessment plan or into my own courses. I'm glad I got the hardcover. I'm sure I'll be referring to this book frequently for many years.

Had to purchase this book for a Master’s level class, it definitely gets the job done...I just wish it had more diagrams and examples.

Not so useful
Full of words and descriptions. Lack of diagram, chart, and real sample illustrations. Hard to read and follow.
