Northgard - Nintendo Switch

I still haven’t managed to get through a full game because it’s hard and I am still learning to play, but it’s a lot of fun. I was a huge age of empires fan back in the day and it has elements that remind me of that and a mix of civilization. Awesome that a RTS game is on switch that seems like such a nice retro throwback to the classics while having a new twist.

It's a decent game. I was expecting it to be more like age of empires or warcraft 2 where you have more control over the construction of your town and how you structure your society. This game really limits what choices you can make and more or less forces you down a set path. the more i think about it the fewer stars i feel the game deserves so i'll stop the review here.

Absolutely love this game! Plays perfectly on the Switch 2. Difficult but super rewarding!

The switch has a touch screen, yet, sadly, this game does not make use of it, making it very hard to play. This type of game really needs that feature. Selecting units and navigating menus with the controller is painful. Sorry I bought this.

Fun game if you like Age of Empires. It is very difficult I suggest playing on easiest setting its hard enough on that. Im getting better at it though as I play more. In game text is small but I could still see it okay. Fun game to waste away and hour or two see how far I can get. Very old school pc style of game

I really enjoyed playing Northgard. It brings an impressive RTS experience to the switch and I really enjoyed the varied gameplay. They even have a setting where there are no AI enemies...just the player vs the environment and some neutral enemies. However, Northgard would occasionally unexpectedly crash, which is a fatal flaw for an RTS. It is absolutely critical that an RTS game can play out reliably with no crashes. Crashes could be mitigated by autosave, but Northgard doesn't have autosave. While manual saves were available to me, remembering to regularly manually save during a distracting real time strategy game isn't reasonable. The crash happened at least twice to me, once causing me to lose all of my progress on a match. In thinking through this, a game tester should have caught this in under 2 days of testing. It's my opinion that either the developers of Northgard didn't do sufficient testing on their game or...they uncovered the crash issue and decided to ship the game anyway...

Very fun game. Takes some effort to figure out at first. But once you get the hang of it it's hours of fun. Wish there was an option for an easier setting. But the normal difficulty is manageable.

Just got this game, and had really high expectations, but the game consistently crashes on the Switch, and then you have to start from scratch every time because the game didn’t save. Quite disappointed.

Ich habe selbst damals 2001 mit Siedler IV angefangen und seit dem alle Siedler, Anno usw Teile durchgespielt (neben x anderen Spielen Witcher, COD, LoR, Fall Out, Far cry.....) . Ich hätte noch nie so ein auch nur annähernd schweres Spiel wie Northgard. Selbst auf der einfachen Stufe, extrem schwer. Scheinbar gibt es auch immer nur einen Weg wie man die Mission schaffen kann und dann MUSS man exakt die Spielmechanik beachten um das Kapitel zu schaffen. Hat für mich nichts mit dem Prinzip Siedler etc zu tun, weil man da auch mit der eigenen Strategie die Mission schaffen kann, dauert dann nur länger oder man bekommt weniger Siegpunkte o.ä.. Bei Northgard stellt man dann nach 1Std fest huppala ich hätte wohl eher Gebiet 5 mit dem erobern sollen und danach erst das Gebiet mit dem, deswg hab ich jetzt 2 Std umsonst gespielt und verloren... Absolut frustrierend! Desweiteren ist alles so winzig das man es nicht auf der Switch spielen kann, Sondern man MUSS es über den Fernseher spielen. Ja, dann Brauch ich es nicht für die Switch kaufen sondern kann es gleich über eine richtige Konsole spielen! Fazit: noch nie so ein frustrierend schweres Spiel gekauft.

Great game, hidden gem and as close as we’ll probably ever get to Age of Empires on the Nintendo Switch. Pros: Great visuals, easy enough to figure out if you put in abit of time, although the menus look intimidating. Cons: Couldn’t find anything for in-game “how to play” or tutorial mode🤷🏻‍♂️ There’s always YouTube though. Recommended if you’re looking for an Age of Empires type RTS on the Switch.
