HTC Dot View Case for HTC One (M8) - Retail Packaging - Orange Popsicle

I never take the time to review things, but I am going to review this!I love it! And I definitely recommend it! It functions awesome and it beautiful. I ordered the Orange one and it looks awesome! So bright! And with the updates to the dot view app there is a lot more customization for your phone!I definitely recommend it. Especially at this low of a price it's worth it!

The design is cool and the app has been updated to include more notifications. I do get tired of opening the front flap and having to hold it open for pictures. After 8 months, the side connecting the back and front is starting to wear/crack just slightly.

I love the idea behind this case. And, in spite of its design faults, I like the case. Being able to see the weather and time without having to open the phone, seeing the last three people called, getting calendar notifications - all great. And the look of the case is so unique (for now anyway) that it just begs to be noticed. The HTC One m8 is a gorgeous phone and having this case is like the cherry on the cake (even if the cherry hides the actual cake).Then there's the matter of actually living with this case. HTC was shortsighted in a few ways, which, if they had not been overlooked, could have made this case a stunner:1. The case is too shallow - so the case doesn't close completely if a screen protector is used. That's just crazy! Even with a case as cool as this, I still want to use a screen protector. For HTC not to allow for that doesn't make sense. It would be different if the closed case sealed the screen against dirt, but it doesn't (in fact, the dot side of the case leaves prints on the screen, which need to be wiped away regularly).2. The magnetic closing embedded in the case is somewhat flimsy. As a result, the case doesn't close with a snap and just a nudge could open the case, meaning the screen is still subject to dirt and damage.3.There should be a way to secure the cover against the curved back of the case when you want to use it with one hand. Alas, that was missed, too.4. The hinge is a missed opportunity - with a display as gorgeous as the one on the HTC One m8, it is not unusual to want to look at photos or watch videos. If the hinge locked in a way to make it possible to look at the phone hands-free in landscape, that would be really useful. But it doesn't. Gee, just some little magnetic clasp to keep the case in a triangle so the phone could stand in landscape would be terrific. Instead, the cover resists being folded behind, which is useless.5. Intermittent gestures - I love the swiping up and down and double taps, but in my experience, they only work intermittently and they should work all the time. For example, in video demos, I always see a little weather graphic (sun, clouds, etc.) with the temp and time, but I have yet to see the weather graphic on my dot view case.It's like when someone writes a beautiful essay that is is full of grammatical errors - not in the "e.e.cummings" kind of way (which is an artistic choice) but in the "oops, gotta get it to market so couldn't be bothered with minute details" kind of way.I have a glass screen protector which I feel I really need to protect my screen because just the case isn't enough. I dislike having to choose between having a decent screen protector and a dot view case. HTC should have foreseen that any reasonable smartphone customer wants both. And they should have done more testing of case use in the real world and it would have been easy to see the usability problems caused by the stiff hinge.So, I am considering another case, even though I like this one, because I love my screen (and want to protect it) more.

This case is a welcome addition to my HTC One M8. Beyond the gimmicks, the case really does add some neat functionality to my phone, and since it's made by HTC, it fits my phone better than any case I've tried.The updated version of the HTC Dot View app allows wallpapers, missed calls, and redials! If you're concerned about usability with one hand, I'll just say that I can still use my phone one-handed, it was just a bit of a learning curve. If you have smaller hands, then the sheer size of the One M8 alone may cause you to use 2 hands.Overall, I'm incredibly happy with this case, and even happier that it's down from the original price of 50 bucks!

This will be my second dot view case. First one was the black version and I loved it. It worked great till about the fifth time it fell and broke off two of the four corners. I was surprised it lasted that long but that last time it fell about four feet onto pavement. Impressed with the functionality of the case I had to get another one. This new case in the popsicle orange is just about worthless. It doesn't close all the way or stay closed. It didn't even have a spring in the hinge. The rubber coating was pealing off when I opened the box and the sticker on the hinge was as well. A cheap knock off with the HTC logo is the only thing I can come up with to explain the complete uselessness of this case. I'd rather pay twice as much to get the real thing than this crap.

The functionality is pretty cool on this. The protection? Yeah, just about zero. I had an otterbox on my phone previously ( I know apples and oranges).It took exactly one week for this case to cost me an addition $100 for a replacement phone. The case does not protect the side of the phone with the volume buttons in any way, shape or form.Guess what happens when the HTC One M* catches a dent to the case right on top of the volume down key? Yeah, the phone lowers the volume to zero as soon as you try to use the phone as a phone.I would not recommend this. Silly me for wanting the nifty dot view stuff. I'd rather have my $100 for the insurance deductible and the $24 back that I wasted on this bobble.

Protects the phone and the color is so vibrant. Bought it to replace the original grey one that came with the phone two years ago.Bright color makes it easy to find it in my purse.

I have been using this case for about 4 or 5 months now. It is holding up fairly well so far. It is a little annoying and awkward to use for a while because it always wants to shut itself. The feature that allows you to swipe the screen with the cover closed only works about half the time. You also need to make sure your hands are pretty clean when you use it because all the little holes can get crumbs and stuff in them and they are a pain to clean out. All in all it is a pretty good case with some neat features. I get a lot of compliments on mine.
