Surround Air Ion Air Purifier with Air Freshner for Cars - XJ800

I bought this item from SurrondAir after I purchased one of their home air cleaners from Amazon and loved it. I have asthma and live in Houston, Texas so try to keep the air clean wherever I can, at home and in my car. This product is an ionizer only, there is no filter, but it works great as such. An ionizer creates ions in the air that attach to small particles that float around like dust or pollen. The particles then are big enough to fall out of the air so you don't have to breathe them in. Then you just vacuum or wipe the dust off the surfaces once a week or so. I know it works because in the first week of using it my car surfaces became a lot more dusty than usual. I keep a duster in the glove box to clean it up when I'm stuck in traffic. After the first couple days of use, I didn't notice any smell. There is a fragrance feature that uses scent pellets, but I don't use it. And it is perfectly quiet.

Bottom line: Doesn't filter the air, generates lots of ozone/ions, sleek attractive look, hard to mount on non-horizontal surfaces, fragrance overpowered by ionized air smell.This product has a very sleek, attractive appearance. However, it does not filter the air. It has an ozone/ion generator, a small fan, and a small container in which you can put scent beads. It has 3 settings, High ionization, Low ionization, and fan only. It comes with velcro strips, which are not useful unless you are mounting the unit on a horizontal surface, as the adhesive on the strips is rather goopy and weak. After running the unit for a while, you can definitely taste the ozone and ionized air. On the high setting overnight, this can be rather strong and might be objectionable to some people. I recommend rolling down the windows for a few minutes before driving to vent out some of the ionization. In fact, the ionized smell overpowers the scent of the fragrance. If you just want fragrance, you should get a different unit or even some cheap air fresheners.

I didn't believe this thing was working, because I didn't hear it doing anything. I didn't use the fragrance, because I wasn't interested in just covering up the smell...I wanted to get rid of the smell. So, I tested it. I put about 6 cigarettes out in an ashtray in my car and let it sit over night, with the ionizer on. In the morning, I could not smell the cigarettes at all...just a fresh clean scent. Like fresh air. It's great, and I hope to invest in one for my home too.

WHEN I GOT IT IT MADE MY TRUCK SMELL LIKE A NEW VEHICLE THE 1ST 2 DAYS. BUT IT'S BEEN 3 DAYS AND THIS MORNING I NOTICED THAT IT SMELLED LIKE SMOKE. I HAVEN'T USED THE AIR FRESHENER BEADS YET, SO MAYBE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Works as described; puts out a lot of ionized air in a short period of time. I like the ability to be able to set the ionization to high or low, or turn the ionizer off completely and let the unit just let the fan push the fragrance sent throughout the car; or turn the entire unit off (no ionization/no "air freshner").Only two minor points: when it arrived (new in the box) all of the fragrance pellets were loose and not in the tiny "slide lock" bag they were obviously designed to be packaged in. This meant the pellets were "stale". And although the manual says more pellets can be ordered, in different fragrances, it is silent on who to contact to do so. Hoping I can find some fragrance pellets locally; it's a nice option, but by no means a deal killer. Shipped very rapidly and arrived (other than the pellets) in pristine condition.
