great tips, love the anatomical pictures
I would definitely recommend this to any runner who has ever had an injury or strain or ache or pain. very well laid out, excellent guide for walkers, joggers, runners at any level. I especially like the no-nonsense attitude to health, healing and staying injury free. I used the dr's recommendations for dealing with piriformis pain in the butt for the past month or so, and I just completed the San Francisco rock n roll half marathon (damn hills!!!) - now I'm slow - last two years was averaging a 17 min mile pace on flat terrain... this year I did 13.2 miles of mostly hills (even crossing the golden gate bridge was uphill! WTH??) averaging 16.36... it may not mean much to anyone else, but that was a big accomplishment for me. My next run is San Diego, which is all flat, so my goal is to complete it under 3:30... the hydration tips for "GOO haters" was excellent... I carried my little salt packs with me and they worked like a charm... this has become my new bible for staying injury free and finishing strong.

A sound investment.Very comprehensive and informative
I read this book cover to cover in a day and a half. I was informative and very interesting. If you are a runner or merely aspire to be one someday, you need this book. It breaks down all the issues that runners face. From training smarter, to post racing walk-out, to when and if runners should donate blood to a blood bank, and everything in between. I also loved all the strengthening and stretching exercises illustrated in the book. I've wondered about how to correctly stretch a tight IT band and how to strengthen my quads without putting excess strain on my runners knees. Well, on pages 152,156 & 157 I got some very great answers! I highly recommend this book to those who run and those who want to extend their running careers and longevity. A sound investment.

Decent book but I still rely on internet research almost always...
I think this book has really good information but your better off researching online if you have the skillset to find reliable resources. I've had this book for a while now and rarely do i read something i didnt already know.

A Dr. Spock book for Runners! YAY!
This book is for every runner/walker at every level. I run 12-14 marathons and half marathons a year and run every weekend. I have read all those running injury books written by writers doing research to give advice. NONE compare to this book. The only book I can compare it to is Dr. Spock's book I read as my child grew and each problem was there with the information I needed. Now, Running Doc has duplicated that formula for runners. Everything that can go wrong is in there. Every preventive tip in in there. And the personal approach is there as if he is talking directly to me. The tone is great and I actually read this book cover to cover and plan on giving this to all my running friends as a holiday gift this year! Thank you Running Doc for writing this book. And I just found you on Facebook (Running Doc page) and will be asking you questions if I need to! Huge fan now! GREAT book!

Fantastic Runners Book !
As a veteran of 24 marathons, including 18 consecutive New York City marathons, as well as hundreds of other road races, I have read a lot of running books along the way. Running Doc's Guide to Healthy Running is a must have for runners of all abilities from the novice to the competitive runner. This book contains everything you need to know ! If you are a runner sooner or later you will get injured. This book will help you avoid injuries, explain them when they happen and help you fix them faster. A clear, concise and humor filled handbook that should be mandatory reading for every runner. I recommend it highly !

Doc, it hurts when I...
As the old joke goes, the physician's response is "well, stop doing that"! I guess my expectations were a bit high. The book yields brief technical medical explanations for a number of running maladies, though not exhaustive, and provides the traditional treatment alternatives in very high level terms. Let me summarize; rest, ice, orthotics/motion control, and/or surgery. Not as much on causes or corrections, like running form and gait,as I would have thought.

Not worth the time, much better information out there
I found this book to have little of value in it. The author gives many opinions without supporting facts and most of the advice is the same old same old basic stuff you could read in runner's world. Some minor things in the injury prevention section were helpful, but easy to find stuff on the internet. I would not recommend this book. Anatomy for Runners is much more thorough and scientifically based and provides much better exercises and explanations.

Review of Running Doc's Guide To Healthy Running
Every runner worries about inury - whether they admit to it or not. And, every runner also always gets those little "glitches" that they just don't know what to do about. But, they also don't want to go to a doctor - we're all afraid that the first words we'll hear are "Stop Running".No runner, even when told that wants to take any time off if not necessary. So, it's important to listen to a doctor who understands runners. So, having a book like this around is essential for runners. Running Doc's Guide To Healthy Running can help you if you are already feeling something or can help you from getting injured.I recommend to all the runners that I work with to have this on their shelf. They may not need it now - but probably will some time in the future. It's a great book for all runners!

A must to have..but
This book is helpful but lacks a broad diversity of injury home type remedies, like vitamin or diet related suggestions.

Belongs in any runner's bookcase
Comprehensive coverage of the most frequent running injuries, written in an accessible style. The warnings about excessive caffeine consumption are thought-provoking.

Poor
This book is from the dark ages. The recommended remedies seem to be orthotics or injections. No meaningful information about rehab, strength exercises, stretching or focus on improving running form. I'm afraid I got nothing of value from this book and was very disappointed.
