Love us some AquaDoodle!
Purchased for Dec, 2013.And again, I say we love-us some AquaDoodle! For those new to AquaDoodle, I think this is the best, way better than the Crayola Color Magic items (which I also like a lot!) in terms of mess-free coloring/playing. The AquaDoodle responds to water. It includes a water pen: you unscrew the pen (which conveniently unscrews clockwise, or the opposite way than most things do), fill it with tap water, and then the sponge tip will get wet, which is your "ink". The pad is already one color or another, so you don't get any kind of choice in which color you use. but toss this thing down on the rug in the family room, or on the kitchen table, and let them go! As the water dries on the pad, their picture will disappear, and they can draw again. With the Travel Doodle, it is more large book-sized; think a big-sized children's book. It's a good lap-book, or a good size for the car.I would highly recommend getting a 2nd pen, or getting an accessory like the stampers or "paint brush". I would also highly recommend the large floor mat...we've always had fun with those! Remember that this is meant for more itty-bitty sized toddlers, which is a great age for needing something that doesn't make a mess, and they're happy making swirls and doodles.

Great for at home of travel... the best size for children and portability.
Great little tool for toddlers who like to draw. Much easier and less messy than crayons, color pencils, markers etc. Just add water and watch them draw. Dries very fast to allow them to constantly draw without waiting. My 2.5 year old loves to use it and I have witnessed him draw an A and a B on it. He loves to have me write the alphabet as he calls out the next letter and when one evaporates he calls out its name so Write it again for him. He also draws on it frequently... and no worrying when we are at friends houses, traveling, restaurants... I have realized a time or two that he has run off with the marker to try to draw on other things. But they loose interest in that as the water makes no damage on walls etc. No cap to worry about as just refill when it dries out.I wish it did come with a back up marker, as I had a heart attack the day before a flight... my son had left his marker at a friend's house and I could not find any in stores. Thankfully friend's found it, and rescued us from a disastrous flight entertainment fiasco.Wish the exterior had a little more firmness to it for lap use because sometimes you don't have a table that you can use.

Good product for traveling!
We bought this product to keep our five year old daughter occupied on a long flight and it worked reasonably well. She loved drawing with it and writing her name over and over again, however she seemed to get bored with it after a few minutes of play. I am guessing it must be because it is a single color and the water marks disappear quickly. Overall, fun and convenient product for traveling and keeping kids busy for some time.

Best Gift
This is the best gift for a young toddler. Mess free and so easy to travel with and play with anywhere. We used to use this in the car rides with our toddler and when visiting friends because it's mess free and my daughter loved to draw over and over again. The magic of water never gets old. The pen holds up pretty well considering how much use it gets too. Purchased this for my nephew and he loves it too.

Piece of crap!
Should have listened to the other reviews who said the same but I didn't. It feels like something you would get at the dollar store, its made of that ultra cheap fake "fabric" the cheapest reusable bags are made of, like the Walmart ones you can buy at the register. Its completely flimsy and not stiff enough to write on in your lap, the pen leaks and needs to be filled for each use. I returned it and Amazon said not to bother sending it back so I still have it and its been used maybe twice and even for free its not enjoyed!

Good in Theory
I purchased this toy for my at the time 19 month old for a 2 hour flight we were taking. I figured it was not messy, i would not have to worry about her coloring with crayons/pens all over me or the plane and it packed up really well.It took a while to get the water pen to work then when it did, it kind of leaked. When we finally got use to the pen it was not all that good. It looked like the lines we created were super fuzzy and we realized it was bleeding into the other designs.Temporarily it held her interest then it was gone. I have since taken it out for her to play with and it lasts about 5 minutes which is not normal for her and other toys.I am going to keep it around and try when she is around 3 to see if its any better. For that age range i would not suggest it. For ease of travel it was great.

Wonderful for travel or around the house!
My 2yo and 4yo love this travel doodle pad! We Keep them in the car most of the time and they happily doodle in their car seats. We also take them into restaurants and recently took them on a few flights. Great product for kiddos who like to draw!Edited: I also love that you twist it the opposite way than normal to loosen the pens. My kiddos have another somewhat similar product but you twist it the normal way to loosen it and my 2yo loves to open the other pens. With the aqua doodle pens he hasn't figured out to twist them the opposite way to open them....yet :)

Good travel option, but wears down quickly
We bought this as a travel toy for my daughter to keep her occupied while we were attending a wedding. I love that it's small, lightweight, and reusable. She had a lot of fun drawing and redrawing. Perfect toy for that kind of activity. The pen fills with water, which is great. The downside is, after one full day of use (and we're talking a LONG day), the white part is already showing quite a bit of wear. You can start to see the blue or red through the white, even while its dry. The pen tip, which appears to be a hardened felt of some sort, is also wearing down. The toy isn't that expensive - I paid $18 - BUT I would have thought I'd get a few months of wear out of it - not a few days.
