Where is the customer service in healthcare?
The book was a bit of a surprise. Dr Berry is critical of his profession, and rightly so. My family doctor passed away a few years ago. He died in a plane crash. When I was assigned a new doctor I was expecting my first visit to be a meet and greet. Sort of get to know one another type of thing. Nope, got strait to a physical with the typical clinical questions. After my second physical I stopped going. I recently went to see an eye specialist for an exam. I told him that I had Googled my symptoms and that was what prompted me to make the appointment. Fortunately there is noting wrong. When I mentioned I had used Google to get more information he got sarcastic. To paraphrase him "Oh yes, good old Dr Google." I got the impression my visit was wasting his time. Even though I was paying for the visit.I suspect healthcare will only get worse with government managing our healthcare. The incentive to help clients is overwritten by micromanaging doctors time and a complex billing system. Perhaps a copy of this book should be required reading. And we as clients should demand more.On a positive note, I like the growing trend of Doctors opting out of insurance and using the direct primary care model. I wish there were more doctors in my area adopting it.

The Truth Will Set You Free
In "Lies My Doctor Told me," Dr. Ken Berry takes an honest, evidence based approach to debunking many commonly held beliefs about health, wellness, and modern medicine. Unlike many medical professionals, Dr. Berry does not believe that the first line of defense against medical problems should be a pill. Instead, he focuses on how lifestyle choices, particularly diet, should be the first thing addressed in order to achieve optimal health. He is not against pharmacology when appropriate, but feels that many drugs are over-prescribed by doctors. He feels these doctors would be doing their patients a better service by being up to date on the current research and advising their patients to look at a variety of diet and lifestyle choices before resorting to medication. Dr. Berry is very honest in this book about how he used to be 'that doctor' who gave out the standard advice and protocols learned by all doctors in medical school, even when in the back of his mind he knew that there had to be a better way. He also acknowledges that he used to be the out of shape, fat doctor giving health advice to patients, and how he finally realized that to lead by example and become healthier, he needed to arm himself with the truth based on current research and actual science. Each topic discussed is delivered in an informative, entertaining, and witty way. The chapters are complete yet succinct, and resources for further reading on each subject are always provided. This is the perfect book to read for yourself and then pass on to others. Be prepared to let go of some of your long held beliefs and replace them with new ones that will make your life and health better in every way.

Eye opening! It will change your life!
I was introduced to Dr Berry by a dear friend. Let me just say his no nonsense approach to healthcare has allowed me to lose 115lbs in 13 months. He lets you know it’s ok to question your doctor’s medical decisions for your health and your life. He encourages open conversations about health and nutrition. You can’t believe everything you hear or read from the MSM. I recommend you buy his book AND follow his YouTube and Facebook page. There is lots of info in all of these places. I have now found a local keto friendly doctor who has helped me on my journey and my husband and dropped his A1C an entire point in 5 months and lost 35lbs. My daughter has lost 52! Thanks Dr Berry for changing my family for the better!

Little to no added value. Preaches to the converted.
The book lacks justification for what is being stated. It all comes down to "trust me, I know better". Most if not all the chapters are stuff that have been know for a long time. Additionally, if you come from hearing the author in talks on keto/0-carb circles, then you probably know way more than what you get here. You won't change anyone's mind by recommending this book nor will you get additional knowledge, I really don't see the point of the book. Definitely not worth paying for. The cherry on top is that the author recognizes this surface level content and tells you that it is YOUR job to go get to the actual information, that he is just tickling your interest. This doesn't make sense because already interested people are buying the book. You may as well listen to the author on Youtube for free to get interested and then actually go do something useful for you.One last thing, a recurrent theme in the book is "Nature/God made so it is good". Regardless of your beliefs, this is an unproductive argument for many reasons. One of them is that you can justify pretty much anything. For instance, God made rabies, therefore rabies are good for us. You may complain that there must be more nuisance in the argument but no, this is as plain as you can expect from the book. An example from the book: "God made the sun, and God made you". Then the author uses that to justify that the sun is good for you. The sun may be good for people but this is just lazy arguing/writing.Conclusion: the book itself seems like a quickly put together money-grab. Please, spend your money more wisely.

Blunt common sense backed by gold standard research
Dr Ken Berry is a font of information whom shines a light on the myths and ignorance that are still being promoted and practiced by some/most doctors, other medical professionals, and governmental/national organisations. This book gives you the knowledge needed to help you take charge of your health and not be a passive cog in the broken health systems. Always research, always question, and never take what the 'expert' says as the absolute best solution. Work with your health professionals, but be willing to step away if they aren't willing to do what is best for you.Btw, Dr Berry has excellent, well researched videos on YouTube in plain, reassuring language, giving you information and detailing how to look after your health. Shortly after I bought this book, my sister-in-law asked to borrow it. It hasn't returned, so I will be buying a replacement! A must have for anyone interested in taking care of their health.

My hero Doctor
This book should be given to all the students going to medical schools to help them think and become real Doctors.Very helpful book for me. Dr Berry is a great Doctor. I wish they could clone him and put him in every Dr's cabinet.

Great second edition, lots of additional information -- buy even if you have the first!
I had already purchased and read the first edition in paperback but heard there was lots of additional information and some really good resources in this edition. It is even better than the first, so now I will be donating my first edition to someone who is new to this topic, and I have my Kindle edition with me wherever I go -- buy it now, even if you have the first book -- you'll love it!

Revealing
In court, you have to swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. This level of veracity is not required elsewhere so half truth, distortions, hypotheses, assumptions and lies can get promoted and spread throughout society. This book makes it clear that many common medical beliefs are not true and, even worse, Canberra damaging to you and your family. This book looks at various issues and exposes the lies. It explains how they developed, goes into medical research and then gives you solutions including what the author himself does.It is fascinating. So why only 4 stars? It's hard to know who to believe and the author may not be meeting the standards for evidence in court. I just don't know and I have become cynical of anyone with an agenda or stands to gain from taking a particular position. It's a standard technique to criticise conventional thinking but that does guarantee new "facts" are correct. What this book does is that it gives you an alternative perspective in managing your own health and that of your loved ones. You can then do more research and the author points you towards more specialised resources. I've bought several of the other books recommended so that I can learn more.
