There is No Opening for the pen at the point

I don't know what some of the other reviewers that gave the pen a poor mark were thinking but this is a great pen for the price. I own many many tactical pens costing up to $100 and more and this one is very solid for the low price. It is a pull cap design. I usually prefer the screw on cap design but this pull cap design is fine.

This VooDo Tactical Master Pen is a good tactical pen for a low price. Be aware however that it is much "pointier" on both ends than a kubotan. It is about 1/2" diameter at the large end and has a pocket clip. One end is rounded, but it has a pointed metal glass breaker tip sticking out about 1/8". The other end is pointed with about a 1/16" diameter.For self defense, striking with either end to a vulnerable spot will be painful, but with the pointed end, it will be more like poking someone with a sharpened stick or a blunt knife. I think it would be best to use the larger rounded end for striking. With either end, you will probably break the skin, due to the glass breaker point on the rounded end. A 1/2" or larger diameter kubotan (perhaps on a keychain) would probably be more versatile and easier for most people to use for self defense, but of course this pen can be kept handy in a pocket without attracting much attention. If you buy it, it obviously would be best to buy the grey/black or silver color so it doesn't stand out.Be aware that some of the reviewers and question answerers don't understand how to even open the pen to write with it. You don't unscrew it - that just disassembles the pen to replace the pen cartridge. Instead, you just PULL it apart and then slide the large end over the small end to write. It has a small rubber O-ring that provides friction when you put it back together.
