Q: The product description says "never needs calibration" yet others say it needs to be sent back to factory about every 3 years. Has there been a change

ZIPLEVEL never needs factory calibration but it does require a factory recharge of its hydro-pneumatics every 2 - 3 years at a lower cost than the annual calibration cost of most conventional instruments. ZIPLEVEL is designed to flash "Cord" on the display and readings may not be repeatable when a recharge is needed. See ziplevel.com/service for more details.

Q: If part of a water hose level is in the sun, that end reads high. What is the technology behind the temperature adjustment?

Very true. ZIPLEVEL is a pressurized hydrostatic altimeter and does not contain water or function like a water level. ZIPLEVEL uses a proprietary inert liquid and pressurizing gas to prevent bubble formation. Temperature compensation of both the Cord and pressure sensing electronics is accomplished by separate temperature sensors and custom factory calibrated software. Additionally, page 32 of the User Guide provides suggestions for best performance.

Q: Mine is still working after 4 years but says "cord" on screen at times..what is that?

This flashes to indicate the need for routine factory Cord recharged that is required about every 3 years. It could also be possible cord damage.

Review Page 32, How to Measure Accurately in the User Guide. Also, check indoors, if there are still problems with repeatability, contact the factory, there may have been a problem with your factory recharge or a subsequent component failure.
