Creative Teaching Press More Greek and Latin Roots Book

I am really enjoying this series. I am a private tutor, and once I've worked students through the program I use to teach reading and spelling, I wanted something to follow up with while we continue to build reading comprehension fluency, and writing skills. The kids are enjoying learning big words and understanding their meanings by knowing the roots. It helps with spelling, too! Who knew indictment had the root "dict" meaning, "speak"?! well, not me, until we started using these books. I appreciate the built in review lessons, too. I've made cards to play matching and Go Fish games, and Bingo cards to provide extra practice. I give prizes if students discover more words with the same roots we have learned. In 19 years of teaching English, this is my very favorite vocabulary instruction resource, bar none I'm buying the entire series for my language-impaired son. It is relevant for every child and builds in interactive learning and academic games. It is systematic and (just barely) context-baaed. If your child struggles with spelling, acquiring vocabulary or learning how to study, get some willing participants to join in working through this effective series of vocab books.

I have been using the first Greek and Latin Roots book for several years. It is the best set-up I have ever seen for teaching vocabulary through root words. There is some initial work preparing and laminating materials (the way I do it), but then you can reuse them for years to come. I use the books for gifted 4th and 5th graders, so they would be perfect for average and above middle school students as well.

If you want your kids in class, or your child at home to get a jump start on language skills, this is the way to go. We use these at our school, and I have my daughter at home do the activities as a suppliment to her lessons at school. Very easy lesson plans, great skill builder, and fun too! I bought the mates to this I liked it so well.

I really like this vocabulary series, and we use it with our fourth graders. It would be nice if there was more practice built into the program as the words are very challenging, and we find ourselves spending a lot of time creating materials to supplement the weekly lists.

Knowing Latin and Greek roots is the fast track to understanding a great deal of English vocabulary. Vol 1 and 2 are very helpful materials to do this.

I bought this for my fourth grade inner city classroom and found that, while I can take ideas from it for lessons, the activities are way to difficult for my kids to complete independently.

This is an excellent addition to her first book. Both feature a weekly series including (1) roots coupled with their definitions, (2) word sort, (3) read-around, and (4) challenging quiz. My 5th graders accepted the challenge and learned a lot.
