MonteverdeBottle Ink, 90ml, Garnet (G308GA)

Excellent value for the money, getting 90ml for $15 vs Montblanc 60ml for $28. Monteverde has a much wider color selection and multiple size bottles so I can buy the smaller size first to try an ink and not spend the money on a large bottle that I may not want to keep. No fountain pen ink is waterproof unless specifically stated so this will run if you get it wet. Pretty good color opacity so you don't need a very wet pen to produce a dark line. It flows well through both my very expensive pens and Jinhao "cheap" (but still surprisingly good) pens. It dries a little faster than Montblanc ink but still doesn't dry in my nib for quite a while even if I leave my pen uncapped. It stains my hands noticeable more than Montblanc ink does so be careful or use gloves to prevent staining your fingers when refilling ink or changing nibs. I think Monteverde is the best all-around pen ink because they have a huge color selection and the price is very reasonable. A 90ml bottle of Monteverde ink costs the same as a 30ml bottle of Noodler's ink even though both seem to write equally well and look equally good with all my fountain pens.

Monteverde California Teal is everything I enjoy about fountain pen inks. Its good flow combined with its ability to produce vibrant color variations makes for an expressive writing experience. The only problem came from the bottle itself. When the ink dries on the treading the cap becomes very difficult to remove. Looking at the color swatches (see photo) California Teal clearly favors the green side of the spectrum.Performance:Monteverde California Teal is a pleasure to use. It has a wonderful ease of flow while still behaving on the paper. It reminds me of Pilot’s Iroshizuku Kon-Peki ink in terms of how it performs. The medium color saturation is rich and vibrant without being too dark. It produces beautiful shading when used with the correct combination of nib and paper quality. If you look closely at the writing sample (see photos) hints of sheen are visible.I found the dry time to be good to average. The increased ink flow will naturally increase dry times in any pen but using a fine nib with average flow I had no issues. Once dry the ink will run if exposed to water. If you’re using it for important notes you make want to consider a more water resistant ink.For sketching the ink provides a smooth and continuous flow. The strokes are quick and immediate. Applying water with a brush allows the color run and blend.Cleaning:I found California Teal to be an easy ink to clean. Flushing out of my Wing Sung 601(pen) with water removed most of the ink. The pen being transparent I could see that some ink remained in between threading and in the tight gaps along the nib. I took the nib unit apart and after a quick rinse with water all ink was removed.Conclusion:Monteverde California Teal really surprised me with how well it flowed while still behaving itself on paper. It is a high quality ink that produces bright vivid greens and teals with a touch of bling thanks to a healthy dose of reddish sheen. On my most expensive Strathmore Alcohol Marker paper(50lb), it looks quite nice. However, on any cheaper or thinner paper, it bleeds through the paper and feathers badly. I didn't see any reviews about this, however when I was writing with it in my Staedtler xf fountain pen, every so often the ink would pool up in the nib and bleed out onto my paper, which is not something I had experienced before with any other ink in that same pen. I may have to buy a different brown ink to write with.

Love the technology. No other ink has it. Most highly recommended.

This is my first Monteverde ink. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I took a chance and I'm glad I did! I've since purchased a couple more Monteverde inks.Smoke Noir is a medium-grey with high saturation. There may be a slight brown tone in there, but this is a true grey. When wet, it looks like a watered-down black...but wait a minute! It dries to a gorgeous grey. On quality white paper (Optik, for example) it has an almost silvery sheen.It's dark enough to be useful for taking notes, journaling, and even in an office setting, but I think I would stick with broader nibs for this -- I'm currently using a Lamy 2000 medium nib, which is pretty fat and juicy. The combination of ink and nib is silky smooth and very pleasant to write with. No significant feathering or bleed-through on cheap notebook or copy paper, although the color is a little darker (still nice, though).I haven't tested this personally, but some reviewers say it is somewhat permanent once dry. This isn't a quality I was looking for when purchasing this ink, but it is a welcome characteristic if true.

I purchased this ink for use in my fountain pens to write with and for drawing. It is a very vibrant color and has good saturation.My only complaint is the capping. I could not open it by hand. I could not open it until I asked my husband to open it. He finally opened it with "Slip Joint Pliers". Apparently, the cap was misaligned upon closing. I was very fearful of losing the ink all over our bodies and floor. We may have cracked the cap or bottle, but we did not. However, this is most likely uncommon occurrence, and it will not hinder me from purchasing more of this ink from Monteverde.

Part 1 The bottle doesn't open. The cap seems to have been screwed in incorrectly. Reading other comments this seems to happen often. I'm still trying to open it and will update this review if successful.Part 2 Needed two people, a towel, and pliers. The glass didn’t break.

I bought this ink after reading mountainofink article/test, just for writing letters, that goes on Tomoe River paper.It is beautiful deep and rich blue ink. Have a bit of shading, and on Tomoe River paper - a beautiful red and violet ssheen on the edges. I'm not a fan of shimmering inks (risk of pen clogging) so this feature doing a trick.On Rhodia paper there us a tiny bit of feathering noticeable.One warning - 90ml bottle is full to the brim so be careful opening it.Also, if you want to pour it to another vessel (in my case TWSBI 20A vac filling inkwell) be extremely careful, do it over sink or secured desk, wear gloves or use syringe.Ink is extremely beautiful and have a nice flow that will begreat even on broader or flex nibs.

Reviewed Sept 2022:Lovely ink, feels so smooth when writing with it, even when using quite a fine nib, I'm convinced it feels less scratchy.The bottle is a wide bottomed, which does mean that as the quantity of ink is reduced, it will be a bit messy to refill my pen, but its manageable.My choice of colour was Red Velvet. Its brown, not red, which is a bit of a disappointment. Its certainly not a brick red, teacher underlining kind of red.I do think that Quink Ink is better, and is my preference.

Supplied in a generous 90ml bottle at a very good price despite being imported from the USA - other imported inks are far more expensive. The colour is rich and deep with no obvious hints of green, blue or brown that others seem often to show. The ink is regarded as 'dry' and it is quite viscous but Monteverde use their IFT technology to restore better flow and to lubricate the pen's innards and nib - the method works extremely well. On paper, the written line is juicy and thick but dries quickly within about 10 seconds. A broad-nibbed pen was used which translates to a little more ink being transferred and slightly longer drying times. A fine nib would reduce both effects.Due to its native high viscosity, the ink is best matched to nibs and/or individual pens that are considered to be naturally wet writers, compensating for their high rate of ink flow. Monteverde's inks will be suitable for use in most of the premium pen brands (Waterman not so well) as characteristics are similar to their self-branded products and most of the reputable Japanese brands (Pilot, Sailor, Platinum etc). Thus far, of the few colours purchased, each behaves similarly in a small variety of pens of differing brands.The range comprises 21 main colours, plus a couple of specialised highlighter inks (only to be used in suitable pens), which is a reasonably wide selection without confusing by having too many shades of a single colour. Other than this black, there are a few more blues than other individual colours which also include one or more shades of green, red, brown, violet and purple. These are the more commonly used colours but the range is periodically expanded.Inexpensive and highly recommended.

"Monteverde g308cp 90 ml Ink Bottle - Canyon Rust" is one of three true brown inks available from within the brand. Canyon Rust is tonally central with a slightly lighter and more orange ink and a darker brown to either side. There are some purple-brown inks that were ruled out of consideration; this is chocolate-brown.This, and most Monteverde inks are moderately wet but unlikely to pool with most nibs and a good choice for any dry-writing pen. Other pens not quite so dry may also work well with any Monteverde ink. As a mid-toned ink, it may not photocopy well but it is sufficiently distinctive to be a good choice for personal use although probably unsuited for business use; a darker brown would satisfy all those criteria. It worked well in a pen regarded as slightly 'wet' and fitted with a Medium nib, but initially far less well in another fitted with a fine nib that normally writes 'dry' and often produces drop-outs. After minor adjustment to increase ink-flow (experience required to avoid permanent nib damage), the improvement was dramatic with the nib now writing reliably and consistently with this ink.Monteverde's inks are well-priced and comparable to other Western brands although their bottle sizes are larger than most making them very economical. The bottles are glass with large well-shaped caps, quite heavy and stable thanks to their wide bases. They are not grossly over-filled (Diamine and Noodlers please take note!) and will not overflow upon inserting a pen. The colour range is varied with many of the common options including blue, black, red and green included.The ink is considered well-behaved in various pens and fitted with different nib grades and several writing examples can be found on-line. Monteverde's inks are definitely worth trying and additional colours are available from Amazon and from several pen dealers both on-line and on the high street.

I have four different Monteverde inks, and next to the Blue, this is my favourite. It is exceptionally well behaved in my fine and medium nibbed pens, and in 18 months I've had no clogging or hard start issues.Although it might appear expensive, the bottle actually contains 90ml of ink, quite a lot more than the average ink bottle, and the new inks from Monteverde are made with their own proprietary Ink Treatment Formula, which they say drastically improves ink flow (I can vouch for that, I use it to 'tame' hard starting pens), I also find that I can leave the cap off my pen for longer if it is inked with Monteverde.This burgundy is a deep wine red through a medium nib, as opposed to other brands, which can sit on the purple side of burgundy.I have a Jinhao 163 medium nib inked up with this and the combination is buttery smooth to write with, and the ink shades beautifully on 100gsm paper.A very forgiving ink, that resists feathering and bleedthrough.Highly recommended. A Burgundy you can live with and use regularly.Hope this helps you choose!
