White Cannas from seed........ worth the wait
Obtained the seeds for these beautiful Cannas from Outsidepride, an Amazon, vendor. Seed once scarfed , soaked and planted in pots sprouted in a week , and grew at an amazing rate in the hot Florida summer sun, reaching mature size 2.5 ft in about 6-7 weeks, The blooms came shortly afterwards, one per stalk, with another bud bulging farther down the stalk, shown in the second picture, That will bloom when the top one drops off; still beautiful after 4 weeks and just starting to show signs of withering. Strong healthy plants from these seeds. I have other colors coming up that I also started from seeds from Outsidepride. A great source if you like growing from seed . Just remember to nick, scarf, or file down a portion of the hard outer shell ( aril ) of the seeds to show a bit their white inner cores, then soak for a few days, then plant in a rich potting soil .

Buy a plant at a store instead
We have several canna plants in the backyard. This is the first time I’ve ever tried growing up from seed. I normally buy them as a plant from a nursery. That said, I follow their directions exactly to a T and out of 10 seeds only one seed germinated Not a good experience.

Great
9/10 germinated. I just scarified them with sandpaper first and put them in a ziplock with a moist paper towel.

I suppose 7 out of ten "ain't" bad. Should I dig up the duds and send ...
I received 10 seeds and followed planting instructions. So far 7 of the seeds have germinated and are doing fairly well (the smallest are about 3 inches tall and the largest are about 8 to 10 inches tall. I suppose 7 out of ten "ain't" bad. Should I dig up the duds and send them back to Outside pride? Lol. I won't know if they are true white canna lilies for a few months yet. Stay tuned.

Quick turn around and high quality
Outside Pride items are high quality. They are packaged responsibly and as a result thrive in the right zone. I order most of my seeds from Outside Pride and it is delightful to witness Mother Nature’s magic unfold.

ok so far
my routine...will hold a seed with pliers very lightly against a bench grinder and nick coating until see white, very carefully. soak in water 24 hrs, then put in ziplock with wet paper tower on top of freezer, which is warm. once a root comes out put in jiffy pellet and wait a few days. using this method, tried 5 of these and 4 came up. possible to damage embryo filing or however you nick the coat. Will revise later, with canna seeds you never know with non species canna types, they might not look like parent plants.

8 out of 10 grew. Consistent results with the salmon and red i purchased earlier this year from Outsidepride.
