Trying to understand why this costs over $7 via Prime, and complete mouse+wand costs $5 via Prime. Is the replacement better quality than original?

I have asked the same question. I have about 15 empty wands. The replacement mice cost more. Go figure. But, it's still cheaper than the local Petco, which sells the wand/mouse for $9.99.

Do these have the same Go Cat metal carabiner-style connector clip, or do they have to be tied on with that little string?

These are bulk bees from Go Cat (maker of the Da Bee) so are the same that are used on the Da Bee. They use the braided string not metal.

how do they attach to wand?

There is a loop of sturdy thread on the tip of the "nose", and you just slide that on the metal clip on the end og the original Da Bird wand.
