Bob's Red Barley Grits
I wanted to try these ,because I remember my Older Sister talking about "Hard Times".There were times when they had nothing to eat but Meal Mush.I tried these Grits, and I know how filling they are. I do like them, plus I added my own taste to them.SincerelyMargaret

There's more than one way to 'grit'
This was, despite barley being a massively produced grain, kind of hard to find in America. I was searching for this to make eastern European style blood sausage. This is the filler for the sausage-- if you're too poor to put lots of meat in your blood sausage-- and it lends a particular taste and texture that's great. Anyway, it's the real deal, having compared this to barley grits brought back from Europe. I cooked a large batch of sausage and had all the folks from the old country with tears of joy. Hard to believe some humble grains can do that for you, but it's true.I do appreciate that Bob's Red Mill is one of the few places taking care to provide those harder to find or heirloom grain varieties, and I use their products often. I like it even more that I can get it online at 2am when more panicked emails for sausage appear.

Deceptive advertising
The pictures of this product show two bags but you only receive one bag. Regardless of how fantastic the product may be I consider that deceptive advertising and abhorrent.

low glycemic substitute for corn grits
Barley tastes just as good as corn grits, but keeps me from getting hungry as soon due to the lower glycemic index.Add butter to the cooking water to prevent boilover and cook for about 15 minutes. Try with cheese or sausage.

These are perfect for beef and barley or lamb and barley stew. They're a hearty grit with a great texture, and the mild flavor mingles nicely with herbs, broth, and meat. Highly recommended!

Been looking for this type cerial for long time. used to get ths in UK, 50 yrs ago. You just added cold milk and a bit og sugar and it went creamy in a few minutes. quick and easy before school or work. made by W G Brow in UK.as Barley Kernels. Any one know if this works with this product?
