Be patient but don't leave it on for several days
When I first got it the lamp worked really great but I forgot to turn it off a couple of times so the wax won't melt properly, I'm pretty sure this is just operator error but everything about this lamp is amazing otherwise. Also be patient with it since mine took 4 hours to completely function (the picture is out of box experience)

Pleasantly Surprised!
Honestly, I was nervous about buying this product because of the questionable reviews. But I honestly don't know what store to go to in order to buy a lava lamp (other than spencer's). The price was also a strong push. I figured if it turned out to be a disaster, I could return it in time and get a new one by Christmas. With all that being said, this product exceeded my expectations. I followed the instructions in the box when I received it so I would avoid any human error issue. I left the lamp on a few hours to make sure it worked - It's a gift so I wanted to check before I gave a dud as a gift. I cooked dinner, came back and the lava was dancing around like sugar plums! I love it! I love the colors and it's so much fun to have on - I might have to keep it. Side note: It comes with many instructions about what to do if the water is cloudy or it's not heating correctly and if all that fails, you can call a number they provide.

awesome. great price!
ok i do emit being a little 'high' while buying this item but i was not disappointed, what so ever. it truly is a beautiful thing and very fascinating to watch(sober). the only concern, (if thats what you want to call it), is the time it takes(1-2hours) for the lava to melt and start actually looking like lava, even this however is interesting to watch, how it slowly starts to melt. this was an easy fix for me, i ordered the 'woods 50007 digital timer' so i can set the time i want the lamp to turn on and off, this will give it enough time to melt before hand. i haven't gotten this yet, but i'll sure comment on it once i do. i also ordered two replacement bulbs, not sure how log this one will last but better safe than lava-less. anyways yes its a cool item, defiantly will draw the attention to anyone that walks into your home/room. very relaxing and makes a cool night light if you still sleep with a light at night like me.

Imperfect but enjoyable. Give it time, follow the instructions.
Chinese copy of the British Mathmos Lava Lamp - not “original” as claimed. Water is a bit ‘foggy’, with smudges & imperfections on inside of glass, wax is a bit bubbly & thin in appearance, but for $11 with free shipping it’s acceptable & delivers the novelty effect of a lava lamp. Youtube’s full of unhelpful, uninformative crackpot videos - except for a ‘making of’ which explained everything. A Mathmos lava lamp costs about $105 and ships from England, and the chemical wax separation formula is a closely guarded secret. This lamp is ok for now, until I buy a real Mathmos Lava Lamp. Update: after a few uses and patiently following the instructions to reduce the ‘foggy’ water, it seems to be ‘breaking in’ nicely. The wax warms up in under 2 hours and flows nicely. The bubbles in the wax have significantly reduced and the water seems a bit clearer and bluer. I think you just need to be patient & methodical with it, and give it time. For $11 it’s not bad. Final update: Added a star making it 4 because it’s apparent to me now that there’s a break-in/settling period as things with moving parts sometimes have. It’s becoming quite enjoyable.

I was taken
Pretty much my entire life I wanted a lava light, not a big deal, but I thought they looked neat. It was something my parents would never have wasted money on Many years later, I decided to get one on a lark. I wish I'd not. The thing came, but the bottom of the box had been cut open and things on the inside were not quite right. I was pretty sure that they'd sent me a return. Not cool, but okay. So I put the thing together, turned it on, and nothing happened. The instructions say to be patient so I was patient for the 8 hours or so. Still nothing happened. When I looked closer the next day, the bulb appeared to be burned out. This got me past my patience limit, so I looked to return the thing. From what I saw, it looked like Amazon wanted me to pay to ship it back. I don't know that for sure, but that's how it looked to be headed. And I really am not interested in dealing with the Post Office during the pandemic anyway. I checked the manufacturer's website and they specifically excluded replacing light bulbs -- even theugh in my case the bulb was busted when I received the item. After another day or so, I decided what the heck I could just replace the bulb and maybe that would work. So I went to Ace Hardware and they had exactly one of that bulb on the rack and it cost 30% of the price of the entire lamp. I bit my tongue and bought the bulb and the light works now. But I can't help having a bad taste about the entire process. I would never have bought that particular lamp if I'd been in a brick and mortar store; something about mutiliated boxes makes me unhappy and I ended up paying for a not inexpensive replacement bulb because the one that came with the light was defective. And when I tried to involve Amazon and the manufacturer, they seemed not so interested in making me whole. I am not a happy customer.

Fun!!
I really like this lava lamp! I have a mermaid and ocean theme in my bathroom and my lava lamp adds some funk! I don't run it when I'm sleeping but I turn it on when I get home from work. It warms up a little faster than my red one and then it's just going going going! Great lamp! The lightbulb it came with popped at soon as I plugged it in but I got a replacement easy at Lowe's for $3 and that's history. Fabulous lamp.

I love 💕 this lava lamp
The lamp came well packaged. I got it home put it together and turned it on waiting for the lava to melt. It’s takes about three hours to four the first time turning on before it gets going well. I’m happy with it. It’s a little cloudy but it seem like it getting clearer since it’s been on. It’s been 40 years since I have had a lava lamp . My first lava lamp was in 1970’s . I have the green wax / blue and I also have the blue water / purple wax both are on and working great. I feel like I’m back in time back in the 70’s when days were a lot cooler. And worry free..

Best Impulse Buy Ever
I never had a lava lamp growing up but remembered how cool they were after seeing a coworker have one in their office. So naturally I went and ordered one. For $20 I can’t complain….this thing is cool! Love the blue/green color. EDIT: take a lot of these 1 star reviews with a grain of salt. For instance the one above this which says it takes a long time to work and gets hot. Really? You didn’t see in the manual where it says it takes 2-6 hours the first time you use it and then you really need someone to tell you thermal energy gives off heat? Every single lava lamp out there gets hot…that’s how they work.
