Finally here!
This movie was long overdue for all those who, like me, grew up in the era of the great Mekka Robot. The story doesn't continue from where it left us, instead it takes up 10 years later. Characters have changed and grown both physically and psychologically. Koji is not a reckless annoying teenager anymore but a scientist with responsibilities and will take the role of Mazinga Z pilot against his will. At times the story feels a bit rushed and over the top, but it's an element we can forgive or the movie would have had to be much longer. This movie is a good way to achieve closure and say goodbye to a friend of many decades.

Very good modern follow up to the classic Mazinger Z show
I thought it was a perfect blend of updating the classic Mazinger designs while still maintaining the spirit of the original look. One of the best looking cell shaded CG movie I've seen. They've really come a long way. This this animation technique has always been hit or miss for me. Infinity is definitely a hit.Lots of fan service and great moments for all of the characters and robots. The story was really out there. But in a good way. I enjoyed it.

A fantastic movie for giant robot fans
Malinger Z Infinity is a gorgeous, stunning animated movie. A Whirlwing of Action and character moments. It starts off running and rarely slows down (except for a few oh so anime whiny brooding moments.) Viz’s English dub is rather surprisingly good. I would go so far as to call it fantastic as far as anime dubs go. (Thank god it wasn’t Funimation)Now the cautionary bit. Malinger Z Infinity is a love letter to the deep Mazinger universe and properties. It is a climax. A look at old friends that you haven’t seen in years. This is not a great jumping on point for Mazinger lore and characters. It is the oh so satisfying conclusion. The movie hits the ground running, and at no point does it stop to bring newcomers up to speed. This is the animated equivalent to Avengers Infinity War, and just as walking into that with no prior knowledge of the MCU will leave one baffled, so will walking into this cold. At least some knowledge of the core Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger stories and characters is needed. Particularly Mazinger Z vs the Great Dark General. At a minimum pull up a Wikipedia entry and learn a little of the story and characters before diving into this one. Just a little bit of prior knowledge will make this much more enjoyable. The animation is a whirlwind of cell shaded CGI. Which isn’t quite as suspension of disbelief breaking as such things normally are.The story is set several years after the events of the mainline Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger stories. Our well known characters have grown up, matured and largely begun non robot lives. The technology that created the Mazingers has transformed the world, providing near unlimited stable clean energy. When a new Mazinger is found, and the great evil returns. The movie introduces a new character, who at times feels jarring ly out of place. Because no giant robot is allowed to not have a blue haired Rei Ayanami clone Waifu character anymore. I will give credit that they do take an annoying and cliched 90’s-00’s type new character, that seems out of place in the 70’s era Mazinger property, and somehow make it work by the end. The final realization of who the new character is, or rather will be makes up for the earlier annoyance. (Think Ashoka Tano from the Star Wars Cline Wars tv series. From her horrifying introduction, until her exit as the one character that rivals Luke Skywalker in fan popularity.)Overall this is a great watch for fans of classic robot shows. It’s a deep love letter to everything that went before. But it does require some familiarity with the property to fully enjoy.

A must have for Mazinger Z fans.
I felt like I turned 4 years old when I saw this movie. It made remember so much how fun was Mazinger Z series (I watched them in Spanish). The animation is superb and has the mixture of action, comedy relief (Boss Borot) and romance. A wise way to introduce one of the best mechas from the past to the new generation.

Childhood nostalgia indeed!
Ah, good ol' Tranzor Z, er I mean, Mazinger Z! I love this movie as it's truly a movie dedicated to the fans of the original Mazinger Z series, (AKA Tranzor Z as it was known in the U.S.). I can only hope that another movie gets made and maybe a new anime series too?

Mazinger Z!
Brings back childhood memories of living on Okinawa in the 70’s! I still love Giant robots! This one is not too heavy on the dumb Japanese tropes. I would still love to see a grown up live action version.
