Disston E0101959 Blu-Mol Door Latch Mortise Tool

This was the first time I used something like this to dig out the channel for the door knob thingy. It works well but it took me a while to figure it out. There are no moving parts so the blades for digging , you just press it in and move the whole thing manually. It did the job well overall. Just weird and no instructions. If I had another to do I think it would be easier now that I know how to use it. Overall , way better then doing this manually.

This tool makes the process of lock installation soooo much easier. The gouge is sharp and went easily into the wood. The side cutter to remove the wood worked so well that I was really surprised. It's a really useful very reasonably priced tool. Well worth it.

Made the job easier

When I went to install a new Yale Assure 2 Lock I found that my bolt slide was not receessed enough into the door for the screws and bracket to line up. The solution was to mortise the bolt in more but trying to use the tools I had on hand was just not working. Frustrated, I ordered this and it arrived the next day. I lined it up and gave it a few whacks and then a chunk of wood came out and then the lock lined up perfectly and I was in business. I thought I was going to have to return the lock but this ten dollar tool saved the day.

Solid concept...marginal delivery. The mortise punch is a decent idea. Works ok. Perfectly centered thanks to the round insert that slides into the existing door hole. My advice...don't plan on getting your final mortise depth the first time around. Give it a few whacks...chisel out some material and reposition the punch for another round. Repeat this method until the desired mortise depth is achieved. As far as the chisel function...forget it. Ended up causing more damage than using an old fashioned chisel. Keep your chisel sharp and thke it slow. The built in chisel on this tool is dull and mostly useless, in part due to a very shallow depth. At the end of the day I'll keep this in my toolbox and not return it. Could go either way.

This product is a must have for anyone who is replacing door hardware or need to chisel out any part of a solid wood door. The mortise tool was very easy to use and created a nice clean line vs the old hand chisel.

Je l’ai acheté pour marquer mes portes en chêne massif. L’outil fait bien le travail pour tracer les lignes, mais le bois est clairement trop dur pour lui permettre de s’enfoncer proprement. Je m’en suis servi pour le marquage, puis j’ai terminé avec des ciseaux à bois. Il faut aussi faire attention à ne pas frapper trop fort, car il est un peu fragile. Cela dit, pour des matériaux plus tendres ou pour un usage de précision, c’est un outil pratique à avoir dans l’atelier.

I used this on my new doors and what a time saver, use some logic and it will work very well. I took out the cutter part of it and sharpened it more and it work even better than out of the box…
