iON Camera 1023 Air Pro 2 Wi-Fi,Black/Blue

Beautifully designed, rugged, simple to operate. You can't ask for more. But ION provides much more with its WIFI module that lets you control camera settings and see what the camera is seeing remotely through your mobile device. I wish they offered even more mounting options. But there is a standard 1/4" x 20 threaded attachment point under the camera (unlike the GoPro cameras) so you can design or create your own mounts. And in a side-by-side comparison with GoPro, I find the video to be brighter, have more colors and clarity, and just look better overall.

I'm posting as much of an objective review as I possibly can.My ION Air Pro 2 arrived Saturday, May 31, 2014. Having done extensive due diligence with this camera, I was very satisfied with the camera. On the other hand, I thought I'd share some information that the manufacturer doesn't.Pros: - The camera is only a bit larger than a roll of quarters, which makes it easy to handle and operate and optimally, quite aero/hydro dynamic - The camera has superb resolution, even in standard definition and the 180 degree field of view is perfect. I don't have mine set for 1080P recording, but for 720P recording, and when previewing videos on my iPhone, the resolution quality is amazing. (Yes, the ION app on my iPhone works as advertised) - The camera automatically records each video in standard and HD, which makes sharing on FB and YT a cinch, while retaining the option of clear video for viewing on a computer screen or an HD TV. - The internal mike is of excellent quality and sound is crisp and clear. - The camera has excellent image stabilization and even recording while hand-holding the camera, and driving, does not cause disorientation when the camera is pointed in a different direction. - The one button recording is an excellent feature, especially if it will be operated while moving, because there's no need to turn the camera on first; sliding the record button forward does it all. - The vibration feature is awesome to let you know it has either started recording, or has shut off via the auto shut-off feature.Cons: - I'm not fond of permanently sticking the helmet mount included with the camera, so I had to send for the helmet/bike mount (an additional $40.00 expense). I want the option of removing the helmet mount, so I didn't really care that the helmet mount, included with the camera, lacks a strap. - There's no detailed user manual included with the camera; only a quick start guide. Presumably, you can download the user manual of the Air Pro from ION's website, and it should work for this one. - The quick start guide tells you "[w]e recommend a class 10 SDHC card." What it doesn't tell you is that if you buy a Class 10 SDHC, ultra-high speed card, the type with a letter U and with number 1 inside (like I did), some of the camera's functionality will not work properly, because the camera is not "currently [as the customer support supervisor stated] designed for use with an ultra-high speed memory card." What you want is a straight Class 10 (with a letter C and a number 10 inside), which "at this time, it's what the camera is designed for." Never mind that possibly next month there will be a firmware update, which will render the non-ultra high speed card useless, and require the purchase of an ultra-high speed card. - The customer service personnel has HORRIBLE customer service skills. The support rep, and the supervisor with whom I spoke, lacked an iota of tact, let alone professionalism. I may not be a whiz on camera technology, but I do know enough to wonder why the camera didn't communicate properly with three (3) different computers running Windows operating systems.In short, if you know your way around action cams, speak the proverbial "language" at greater than a novice level and want a camera that's capable of taking superb video and still shots, has a plethora of advantages over the GoPro, costs less than the GoPro, it's slicker looking than the GoPro, AND don't mind crappy support personnel, or have no qualms with rocking the proverbial "boat" to get your answer, get this camera. My other alternative was the Garmin VIRB, simply because of the accelerometer and GPS capability that would work beautifully with my Edge 510 cycling computer. But, I didn't care for the $299.00 price tag, even though it was still $100.00 less than the GoPro Hero 3 Black, with which both the ION and the VIRB compare beautifully.

it is cheap i mean its built well but most of the times its i reliable some times it just dont wants to turn on some times it turns on and then after few minutes turns of and you think it is recording but its not... and it happens all the time it disappointed me so many times that i will sale both of my ions and buy something else

I really don't know how to rate this camera. One star may be unfair. It may take great videos and stills, but I could never get past the set-up. It may be that I am an all Apple guy and have been since 1978. The software that comes with the camera is for windows based computers and may work well there. Apple users must go to the website and download an App for set-up. It took a great deal of fussing to get the camera and the computer to talk to each other. Then I tried a few stills and videos. There is audible/tactile feedback when a still shot is taken. However, there is nothing that I could find that would tell you that a video is being recorded. Did I miss something? I used the cell phone App to look at the stills and videos. Again, I found the software very clunky and user unfriendly. I also wasn't in love with the 180 degree, fish eye view in the stills and video. This is a third camera from the third manufacturer I have used over the past ten years (others were Oregon Scientific and Contour), making videos for my website, Yackman.com, and I worked in technology related fields throughout my career, so it's not like I'm a novice at this. This seems like a quality product that may be being held back by bad software. Has anyone else had these concerns? BTW, I returned the camera for a refund.

Great camera, bigger than i spected and it's very bold; my sony action cam is thinner that this, another con is that mic jack is 2.5mm and not standard 3.5; so i'm waiting for a new microphone, but, there is no hole to connect the mic while camera is at waterproof mode, i needed to drill a hole, and after that i noticed jack is not standard. By the other hand, battery is not removable and there is no option to record while charging. I wanted to use this on my helmet (at side, not at top; i can't use it at top because of the windshield. So i need to use this camera it at the handlebar, while my action cam remains on the helmet.*** UPDATE!!!As long recording, every camera split takes in very parts, normally with consecutive numbering, well, this camera doesn't do that, first take is IONX0001 (where IONX indicates the split, and 0001 indicates the take), so, the second part is named IO010001... my second take was named IONX0002 and its split IO010002, weird, uh?i think (splits will be no longer than 5, maybe 6, but no more) each split have 30 mins of duration, battery lives are 150mins, so...), it's not better file name ION0001A (where ION is 'bout camera, 0001 the take and A-F the split?By the other hand, quality is not what i spected neither (see attached photo)

Non è più disponibile l'app ION per controllare la Camera dal cellulare quindi si possono scaricare foto e video solo da PC....

Super Design gute Verarbeitung super Ton und Bild Qualitätaber deswegen nur 3 Sterne ich habe die Cam für motovlok Videos aufzunehmen gekauft wifi und externes Mikro nicht gleichzeitig verwendbar da man das wifi Adapter (Deckel) auf der Rückseite abnehmen muss um das externe Mikrofon anschließen zu können und die kann Mann nicht mehr aufsetzen weil der Mikro (Klinke)Stecker im Wege ist

Tercera que tengo ya. A un precio muy inferior al de la compra inicial. La primera la perdí al mar. Ahora tengo dos que uso asiduamente en diferentes deportes de aventura como escaldad, barrancos, ferratas.... perfecta companyia de aventuras. Imposible mejor producto calidad/precio.

Excelente en todos los aspectos, practica y con buena pila, videos muy buenos, la he comparado con otras camaras y se desenvuelve muy bien

Great camera. I am starting a Ebike store and I use all product before recommending them to clients.I recommend this one. The 1st reason is it is already water proof. In video it automatically shoots in t different modes. One in HD basically the other for uploading to the net. As a business owner this is a plus - the other mode you upload to the net is not as big a file. Picture quality in a lower dpi I believe. Still looks good.Have not tried the Wi-Fi - having trouble with my tablet. Video does record for p to 2.5 hours. The vibrate on/off/recording/snap a photo is awesome. I mount the camera on my bicycle helmet, hit the button it vibrates - I know it is working.Easy to download and charge - every accessory you can think of. ALREADY included!!!! I needed waterproof - already doneWhat you point at is what you see. Love the 180 degree view.I use this camera in all weather - I recommend this product as a great value for the cost. 171ebike.com
