Fantastic, fun book about modern post production. Who knew?!?
I've worked in post for a loooong time, but realized on my last show that I needed to get up to date on current workflows and techniques. When I saw this in the Editor's Guild newsletter, I figured I would take a chance and see what happened. This book exceeded all my expectations. Somehow, they made post a fun read. I had an eye out for anything I disagreed with based on my experience, but it became clear the authors really knew the field from working in it. I also got a chuckle about some of those old editing systems that came and went. I forgot all about the Lightworks shark! That was the best part of that whole machine! Anyway.Hats off to the authors. I read this book cover to cover, and will recommend it to anyone. This should definitely be required for college students taking an editing class.

Great reference for post production workflow. What I like
About the many things I like are the Q&A interviews with professional in the field. And overall, the brakedown and detail for post-production, and references. Initially I rent the book for a post class. After few weeks I decide it to buy it, and keep it as reference book.

Let Film Go
In general I found this book to be very good, but it has a few areas that could use improvement. Like many production-related books, it spends way too much time on film (celluloid) topics. A little of this outdated info goes a long way. While I think it is important for students to learn the basic connections between video production and film techniques, going beyond these connections is not useful to the reader. Anyone needing detailed info on real film methods has plenty of other books to choose from. We are well into the digital production era and I'd like to see books like this continue to move in this direction. Also, for a book on workflow, there were really no specific workflows presented. Instead they cover deliverables and workflow methods. I would have liked to have seen two or three end-to-end workflows presented, from acquisition to dailies and eventual delivery. This would include the lowest level details -- file types, storage methods, rendering times and any shortcuts -- everything that a complete workflow entails. Of course this varies for every camera, every production house and maybe every project, but a few examples would be very helpful.Other than these comments I felt the book was worth reading. As others have noted, this is a textbook. I believe it is used in college classes. For that reason it is a little overpriced, but it is also available as a used book, which is what I purchased.

The Post Manual!
I have been a post producer for years and a friend found this randomly. I was blown away. It is detailed and fantastic and explains the correct ways to do things. I bought it on the spot as a reference / coffee table / teaching guide. Thank you Scott!

What a shame.
I've just started reading this book and I'm surprised nobody ever noticed that in ch. 2.4.1 "History of Digital Video" when they talk about Dogme 95 filmmakers movement they say "Von Trier's first film The Celebration...". Well, since Lars von Trier is one of my favorite filmmakers of all times and I've seen The Celebration, I know that he never shot this movie and it was directed by another famous Danish filmmaker named Thomas Vinterberg. However, it seems that neither for the authors of this textbook nor for its publishes there's no difference between these two great European directors. What a shame. I'm not sure about reliability of the rest of the information provided in this book now.
