Sony TCM-200DV Standard Cassette players are EXSPENSIVE! but worth it
These are the best listening devices for Cassettes bc there are basically two gears, fast and slow, and then an analog dial that works in each speed, so there is quite a variety. If I want to listen slowly and catch every word I can do it (sounds like the Great Sloth is talking but I'm used to it) or if I want to mainline it I turn it up to 11! I bought a bunch of them back when they were cheap but over the years one by one through being dropped or whatever the speed doesn't change anymore or there is a buzzing or the rewind stops working. I've kept most of them with marker labels on each one so I can still use them for rewinding or in a pinch. Now that they are super expensive I hope I quit dropping them bc they are rather fragile. But I probably will continue to drop and probably will continue to buy til they disappear from the face of the earth.

Not a pleasant experience...
I ordered a Sony of this type some months ago...I didn't buy the guarantee...It stopped working after a fewmonths...Because I didn't take out a additional cost guarantee, I suffered the consequences...Now...I hadto buy a second one...Then...I received two recorders instead of one...?So...I had to go thru the trouble of returning it...Thanks to you it wasn't so hard...But it was the fact thatthe first one I bought not much before this one...died on me...???I tried to speak to someone...but...I seemed to have been just a number...I am a disabled veterans who has the luxuary of playing the piano..I make tapes for my friends and for myrelatives from time to time...I didn't need this...and you were only the delivery service and my company I prefer...Amazon is the first company I turn to when I get the itch to buy something...:(Now...I am stuck with a recorder that doesn't work..? Cost me more than I thought, as I had to buy twoSony recorders to be to get one that worked...This time I bought a guarantee...this time...it won't break...?Sorry, I depend on Amazon to help me...that time you didn't do much for me...:(I iam looking for a head set for the recorder...I guess, because you guys have been so good to me in thepast...I will come to you for one...No bad feelings to Amazon...you were responsible for delivering the item..And you do that wel...Thanks...I guess the next time I will not pick Sony...Charlie

It does the job, uses regular cassette tapes, ...record, rewind, & play
The TCM-2000DV is a welcome edition to the traditional recorders still offered on the market, mainly because of it's bigger, clearer speaker. The tactle feel and placement of the buttons are good and provide firm feedback when pressed. Recording quality is very sensitive. Be sure to position the microphone away from objects that might rub against it (like your jacket pocket ;) The speaker quality is very good. As with any speaker, try not to turn the volume up to max during playback. All the additional features are "nice to haves". So overall, a good note taker, that is if you don't mind the size.

Very nice product.
A friend of mine gave me over a 100 books on tape that he no longer wanted. The only problem was that they are on standard size cassettes. Every cassette player that I could find was pretty cheaply made, and didn't have good reviews relative to durability. Last Dec. my grandchildren asked me what I wanted to Christmas. I told them a standard cassette player. I got blank stares as they didn't know what cassettes were. They gave me an Amazon gift card... perfect. I got to shop for the player I wanted at a price I was willing to spend. This Sony seemed to be the best choice. I have been very happy with it. The feature that I use which I didn't think I would is the Speed Control playback. I don't always have the time to listen to an entire book at one sitting. When I pick it up again I can go back and replay some of what I had already heard at a faster than normal speed, thereby refreshing my recollection.

Sony TCM 200DV Cassette Recorder
This is an over time review. I bought this item 4 years ago. What I have to say now could have also applied 4 years ago, so here goes. I needed a cassette recorder to do a music project recording old 78 rpm discs. (records) I can also assume (to be charitable) that I received either a factory reject, or an item that was used before, returned, then re- sold as new, I don't know. So here goes. This item will record and play back. The only thing is (based on my Sony TCM-22DV) for recording music, this sucks. I got a very annoying overdub of what I can only describe as motor noise overshadowing the recording. Also, when hooked up to my PC, for example, using a 3.5 mini cable from headphone jack (PC) to mic (Sony recorder), if you touch/move the Sony, the tape reels will STOP. (while the music plays). This is unacceptable. My solution was to go and buy a vintage Pioneer full size 1970's tape deck. Now, THAT works. (as long as belts hold out) I do not believe that companies still produce good quality cassette recorders today, since they are a dead, (or at least dying) media system. My Sony 200DV is only good for punting into the trash can.

Hard to find, and just what I needed
I have worn out several of these recorders, for I use them all the time. I like to record my voice lessons and also it is handy to take to choir practice to record our harmony parts. Portable, easy to use, and good quality. I like to then pop the tape into my boom box.Eventually they start to make and record a clicking sound, but hey, nothing lasts forever. Try going into a store to ask for a "tape recorder" and the young workers look at you like a deer in a headlight.Hope these stay around, for when I wear this one out, I will need to replace it.

Music Teacher gives Encore!
Amazon proves its worth as a valuable resource when it offers such a quality device on its website; a device that many in this day and age consider outdated and unfit for their shelves. There are still people in need of this, in fact, a music teacher with a whole library of tapes. Thank you Amazon!

Sony cassette recorder
Ok so you may think this seems a little old fashioned but it is so easy compact and simple to use, I think it is far better than digital recorders that I found difficult to use once a lot of recordings had been made. This is great, reliable and well made. It also has a double speed button so it allows double the amount of recording. Also plays regular cassettes as well as your own recordings. I would strongly recommend this. I just hope they keep making them so I can replace it for the same when my own one eventually wears out.

Arrived promptly. Well packaged. Does just what it was bought to do - ie recording music rehearsals so I can learn my harmonies. Very pleased with my purchase.
