Works Great, but know what you're doing before you buy!
I'm going to start off by debunking a few things I read in reviews of this product and similar products while I was looking around.1) No, you can't just plug your phone into your modems RJ45 (Ethernet) port and magically get phone service. If you have phone service through you're ISP (Internet Service Provider) then your modem will have RJ11 (Phone) ports on the back of it for you're phone. If you don't have that then you have to have a VoIP adapter and a supported service.2) No, you can't just plug you computers RJ45 port into the phone port on the wall and get dial up. Dial up requires a special dial up modem to function. Both this and number one could irreparably damage your devices and most likely won't be covered under warranty.3) Please don't get this so you can use you phone lines in your building like Ethernet lines. Phone lines aren't designed for transmitting high speed data and even if you get it to work, you local network speed will likely be slower then you're actual internet speeds. In conclusion, this adapter doesn't contain unicorn magic...Now, for the review of what this product is intended for. This product is intended to allow the use of existing network infrastructure to transmit phone signals and also assumes you have some knowledge of networking and telecommunications. Assuming the two ports you're connecting these to are directly connected and not going through a router or network switch (they won't work in the latter case and could damage your network hardware) then they work perfectly. If you're using them as standalone adapters then keep reading. In my case I just needed a single adapter at my patch panel that was already set to be wired to an RJ11 wall jack I installed. When used in a standalone situation, note that L1 and L2 are SWAPPED and you will need to wire you're setup to correct for this. I did that by simply wiring my patch panel to correct it, you may need to rewire it elsewhere in your setup. Some reviews mentioned it was possible to rewire the adapter, but it seems like more work then it would be to rewire my patch panel or the wall jack.I'm not taking off a star because these are intended to be used in pairs, hence why there is no option to just buy a single adapter and why its not mentioned in the description of the product. For those complaining about the crossover bit, the adapter does have labeling to indicate that the lines are swapped. If you're using both, the lines get swapped back to the correct pins with no problem and no fancy wiring is necessary.

Perfect solution for utilizing our existing Ethernet cable infrastructure to get a couple analog lines across the office. One example: we needed a fax machine located in the middle of the office plugged into the telephone system located in the server room. Plug the fax machine into one of these and then plug that into an empty Ethernet port on the wall, then plug another one of these into the corresponding Ethernet port on the patch panel in the server room connected to an analog line plugged into the phone system. Faxing works great and without needing to run a 100' telephone cable over the dropped ceiling into the server room.

Cheap, wired wrong.
Unfortunately, the adapter has pairs 1 and 2 swapped, so unless you use them as a pair, it won't work. When I ordered this, I expected to have pair 1 of the RJ45/8P4C plug connected to pair 1 on the RJ11/6P4C jack, and pair 2 to pair 2. That would be pin 4/5 to 3/4 and 3/6 to 2/5. That would match up what you use the wire pairs in the cable for, and that's what I've used in the past 20 or so years. The actual connection is crossed-over, so if you have existing wiring or other adapters that expect pairs 1 and 2 to go straight through, these won't work.In addition, of the 8 I bought in total, 3 fell apart unpacking them. Made figuring out why they were"t working a lot easier, though :-)

Once I disconnected the 2 adapters from my telephone lines and joined them with a back-to-back coupler I had good, loud telephon
The reason I bought the adapters was that I had a UPS that had 2 jacks for protection of NETWORK cables, but not telephone/modem lines, so I thought these adapters would let me plug my telephone lines into them, and then plug the male adapter plug into the UPS jack. When I tried it, I was able to receive the Internet signal through the 2 adapters OK, BUT for some reason the internal wiring either in the UPS or the adapters caused my telephone ring voltage to drop to 33 volts, instead of the regular 90 volts, causing my phone to ring just one weak ring, and then the telephone company equipment would lock out the rest of the rings and the line would quit ringing, so I did not know when I was getting calls. Once I disconnected the 2 adapters from my telephone lines and joined the telephone lines with a back-to-back coupler I had good, loud telephone rings for incoming calls, and things were normal again. Thus I could not use these adapters for my purpose. Instead, I purchased a UPS that has telephone/modem protection jacks on it.

Works Well for Us, Quick/Cheap Solution
These worked well for us. We have our office wired for internet (cat5e) but not for phones. We wanted to use Vonage phone lines. So we have phone lines plugged into the Vonage box and then use these to convert from phone to Cat5e in our utility closet. Then it runs through the office internet cat5e wiring. Then in each office we have a second one of these to convert back to phone line.

Good Value
Excellent quality connectors. I used them for extensions on the telephone/internet/media connection box that metrocast gives to customers after connecting to their services.
